Chapter 37 - The Black Fort

Northern Empire

Black City

Black Fort

The Black City's Fort was a large outpost on the border of the Northern Empire. The border was differentiated by a long and large wall built after the formation of the Northern Empire.

The wall ran along the continent dividing the North from the three Kingdoms connected to it.

Margrave Empire was south to The Black City, Glavis Kingdom was south to the Grey City. Salvador Federation was south to The Green City.

The fort was built north of the wall. It had two gates. The Outer gate was the only way into the Northern Empire in that region. The Inner gate was a smaller gate that lead out of the fort and into the Black City.

The fort was guarded at all times by Five thousand soldiers and during times of war, that number doubled. Soldiers took turns watching over the wall from several watchtowers. This was currently the most guarded fort in the north.

The soldiers of the fort were lead by the Head Guard Hash. He was an Noble Vampire and a former top warrior of the Vampire clan.

That day, Hash had received information from scouts that the Margrave army had set camp in a small forest not too far south of the fort. So he had sent a message to the Black city's military HQ to send reinforcement to the fort to prepare for war.

Later that day, the head of the military of the Black city, the Black Knight, the Fifteen Black lieutenants of the Fifteen squads and Two million soldiers had arrived at the gate of the fort.

Head Guard Hash and his men opened up the Inner gate of the fort and received the soldiers.

Leading the soldiers, was the highest ranking soldier in the Black City. The Black Knight.

The Black Knight was an orc named Zero. A former member of the Seven Generals of Minora. He was a tall man with brown hair and brown eyes.

He came into the fort on his horse. He pulled the reins and lead the horse forward, and his soldiers followed behind. As he came right before the Head Guard, he pulled the reins again and the horse came to a halt.

Zero came down from his horse and handed the reins to a soldier who came to take the horse to the stables.

"Welcome to the Black Fort. We have been waiting for you, Lord Zero." Hash said.

Zero turned to Hash. "Head Guard. We received your message. We had planned to arrive today just as your message said. I hope the fort is ready enough to house me and my two million soldiers."

"Of course!" Hash confirmed. "The three fort's along the wall was built to house three million soldiers each."

"Good! Alright men, get the horses food and rest! Put all the supplies in the storage rooms! Put the weapons in the armoury! Nico!" Zero called.

"Yes. Lord Zero." Nico, the Black Lieutenant of squad one answered.

"Take two thousand soldiers and join the soldiers on the wall and in watchtowers. Let the squads change shifts every five hours." Zero ordered.

"Yes sir."

And so the fort became even more busy then ever. More soldiers and lieutenants guarding the wall and watching for any sign of movement.

Hash took Zero around the fort showing him and explaining to him how the fort was built to withstand attacks and also give out attacks from within. The tour took him everywhere then they got to the top of the wall.

Hash pointed out down south to a forest in the distance. "There! Beyond that forest is a clearing. That is where the army has taken camp."

"What did the scouts report?" Zero asked.

"The scouts reported that the army just arrived today and have not settled yet. They made camp and are still busy. It would take at least one more day before they are ready to attack us. But we are ready even if they attack earlier."

"I see. His majesty also predicted the same. He sent a message via a CMD to me that the commanders and generals would arrive tomorrow with five hundred soldiers. Apparently the one million soldiers in the clearing are just the advance army. Five million more soldiers are heading here. And they are just two days behind them. Meaning if the war begins in two days, the five million soldiers might join the war."

"The march for one million soldiers from Margrave here is much different than the march for five million soldiers. Even if the army of five million began marching two days after, it doesn't mean they will get here two days later."

"You are probably right." Zero sighed and touched his chin. "But even if they get here, I doubt soldiers who have been marching for seven days will be able to pick up arms and join the battle. Anyway, take me to the control room. We have a lot to do."

After riding all day and resting at nights, the five hundred soldiers from Millis arrived at the outskirts of the Black City.

Before entering the city, they noticed a group of riders headed towards them so the stopped and watched. Then Lia noticed that the rider in front was someone she knew.

The rider was the Governor of the Black city, Beth, and her escort guards.

Beth was a noble Vampire Noble granted with the authority of governing over all of the Black City by the Black Lord, Lisa. Beth was a tall woman with black hair and red eyes.

Before her post as governor, she was the special advisor to the Pureblood Vampire siblings when they ruled over the Vampire Clan's City.

As they noticed her, Aisha, Arianne and Lia came down from their horses.

The governor and her guards soon reached the soldiers and dismounted their horses.

Beth walked up to the three Commanders and bowed. "Lady Aisha, Lady Arianne, Lady Lia. It is an honour to welcome you to the Black City. I heard the news that you would be on your way to the Black Fort to take command of the war. So I decided to welcome you and personally escort you to the fortress."

"Thank you Governor Beth." Aisha said.

"You have actually saved us some time."

Arianne added. "You see, we had planned to come and meet with you. We have some business we have to discuss together."

"We have a letter from Lord Lisa." Lia said. "She had written some detailed instructions she had for you. But we should head to the fort first. We can take our time and discuss everything there."

"Lia's right." Aisha said. "Let us head to the fort first."

Beth smiled and nodded. "Okay. Let's go."

As the governor and soldiers got into the city, they were welcomed by the citizens of the Black city. As they rode through the city and headed south to the wall, the people cheered and applauded them.

After a few hours of riding, they could finally see the fort in full view. Just then, a bell rang in the fort, and the Inner gate was opened. It was the fort's way of welcoming their allies.

The soldiers, governor and her guards rode through the gate and into the fortress.

The Black Knight, the Head Guard of the fort and a few Lieutenants who weren't on guard duty had come down to welcome their commanders.

"Welcome to the Black Fort, Commanders, Generals and Governor Beth. It's an honour to have you all here." Head guard Hash said kneeling down on one knee with his head bowed. All soldiers in view, in the fort, followed their commander and knelt down.

"Rise Hash." Lia said.

Lia one of former three monarchs of the Vampire clan was very close to Hash who was once one of the top warriors of the vampire clan.

"Head guard, you have really done well. Just looking around, I can see how much effort you put into protecting the fort." Arianne complemented.

"I am unworthy of such praise Lady... I am sorry but I do not know your name. Can you please give this humble soldier the honour of knowing your name." Hash said.

"Oh! Forgive me. We came in and did not introduce ourselves. But I believe this isn't the right place for that. Take us to the control room. There is much to be done."

"It would be my honour, my lady."
