Chereads / The Slothful King / Chapter 3 - Meeting Of The Monsters

Chapter 3 - Meeting Of The Monsters

The Eight Major clans of Monsters consisted of different subraces.

The Wolf clan has four subraces. The Royal White Wolves, Grey Wolves, Black Wolves and Brown Wolves.

The Vampire clan has three subraces. The Pureblood Vampires, first and royals. Then the Nobles and the Commons.

The Tiger clan has four subraces. The Royal White Tigers, the Black Tigers, the Red and the Brown Tigers.

The Phoenix clan consisted of three subraces. The Royal Red Phoenix, the Blue Phoenix and the Green Phoenix.

The Fox Clan has four subraces. The Royal White Fox, the Red Fox and the Black Fox and the Brown Fox.

The Spiders has four subraces. The Royal Black Spiders, the White spiders, the Red spiders and the Purple spiders.

The Magi has three subraces. The Royal Magi, the White Magi and the Black Magi.

The Dragon Clan has five subraces. The Royal Ice Dragon, the Fire Dragon, the Earth Dragon, the Wind Dragon and the Water Dragon.

And they all came, responding to Jordan's letter. And believing that he would not summon them unless he had an important reason to do so. And he did.

They entered the main hall. Ash and the three wolf leaders were in the hall waiting.

The hall became filled with delegates from every clan. The leaders and the people who accompanied them all knew one another. It was custom for all the clans to celebrate the arrival of a new leader together.

But this time was different. Jordan didn't invite them to come to celebrate his arrival, he called them for an important meeting. The difference between the two was something the leaders knew very well. Important meetings were called only when events that can affect all the clans were about to happen or already happening.

The hall became noisy with sounds of greetings. Everyone chatting or discussing with someone else. Then Jordan walked in.

As I walked down the hallway leading to the hall, I heard them. They were discussing with one another. As I made my entrance into the hall, the room turned silent. Everyone's gaze shifted to me as I walked slowly towards the large round table that stood in the middle of the room.

"Welcome Prince Jordan." My guests greeted me in unison sounding like only one person had spoken in a very loud voice.

"Thank you all. Wow. I see the leaders and representatives from all fifteen clans are present. Thank you for answering my call. Please take your seats. Our discussion is going to be a long one."

They all took their seats on the many chairs that surrounded the large round table. After they were all seated, I pulled my chair out from the table and sat.

I looked round at all the faces on seated in front of me and started. "I see you all understood the meaning in my letters. I didn't call you all here to celebrate my arrival. I called you all here for an important matter."

"The world is changing. Things are happening that most people can't see and those that can see, are already making plans to make that change benefit them. But this is worse for us Monsters."

"But I am here to change that. According to our history, after the great war many years ago. After all races finally achieved peace, we monsters decided that we would rather remain as we are that grow. We decided to stay in our own and not interact too much, not only with other races but also with each other."

"We retreated to our cities and left the minor clans to their own devices. But that was wrong. That was one of our many mistakes. As we remained divided, other races grew in ways we could not imagine. The Elves. Their empire now the of the most powerful."

"The Giants, now allies with the humans of the East. The Humans, now having three large and powerful kingdoms in this continent. Even the Dwarven tribes have allied themselves with every nation on this continent."

"But we Monsters. We remained the same. Thinking we are also growing but that, is only in our heads."

"A war is coming! One we cannot run from or hide from. We can only either come together as a race or we can all perish alone."

"I know all this seems impromptu but I saw the signs long ago. Long before I left the Tower. Then I met with the Four Kings and the Four Queens."

"I told them what I had discovered and I told them of my plan and they said this: If the leaders accept it, we will not interfere. In fact, we will support you."

"When I heard this, I knew immediately that what I had only suspected was true. Because they were also worried about the same thing I was. They could all sense it but couldn't tell us. The Veil is weakening."

"What?"

"There's no way. Right?"

They all started to murmur and whisper the moment I mentioned the veil. The room became loud until—"Are you sure Jordan?" Anne asked as she stared at me with worry in her eyes.

"I doubt Jordan would lie to us about something this important." Lisa said.

"Importance isn't the issue right now. The issue is whether or not it is possible." King Klaus.

"I am sure, Anne. The veil has been weakening for over three years now. And if I am to guess, I would say The Veil will completely break in about five years."

"That's impossible!" Isaac shouted in disbelief. "The Ancestors sealed the Demon continent behind The Veil over ten thousand years ago. That was why the Royal Families were trapped in the Underground Tower by the Gods. We all know this. It is impossible for the veil to break."

"It is true the Ancestors made the veil. But the Ancestors never said anything about The Veil lasting forever. The Demons were raging war in us. And the Ancestors knew. They knew we did not have a chance against the Demon army so they did what they did to protect us."

"They sealed the Demons away to give us time to prepare. But we didn't know that. They gave their life to create the veil. But now we have made their sacrifice in vain. The different clans felt the veil was going to last forever so they forgot about the Demons. And now... now we are out of time."

The room turned silent. I could tell by the look in their eyes that they had accepted it.

"So! What then is this plan of yours?" Ash asked probably trying to calm everyone down.

Everyone looked to mw with curious eyes, hoping to see if the lazy prince of the Wolf Clan really had a plan that could maybe help their situation even a little bit.

I was known as the Slothful prince back in the Tower because I was always seen sleeping or playing around. I didn't seem to take anything seriously.

But some people knew that I was different. Some people respected me. They respected my intellect, my honesty and my authority.

The only thing people didn't know about me was that I was also strong. I knew the kind of life I wanted to live was not going to be possible until I was strong enough to make it possible. So I trained. Until I was strong enough to make it possible.

"As I said before. To weather this storm, we have to come together as a race. So, I decided. I have decided not to become the leader of the Wolf Clan. I intend to allow Ash continue to lead our clan."

"Instead, I have decided to become the King of all the Monster races on the surface!"

"What?"

"Are you joking?

"He can't be serious."

The room exploded in protest. Most of them were confused about the what I had just said and others were already protesting against it.

"You have only been here a day or two and you have already managed to make everyone angry at you. You really haven't changed." Lisa said with a smile.

"Enough!" Ralph shouted. He managed to calm everyone. Then the room went quiet. "Before we can dismiss him, we have to hear his reasons. We have to let him finish. Jordan." He turned to me and nodded, signalling me to continue.

"I have a plan." I said. "I plan to unite all fifteen clans under one nation. A plan to make our nation not only the largest, but also the most powerful nation in the continent."

"But to make that happen, we need to unite under someone and something. We already have the something. And that is our collective will to defend our race from the Demons. The someone, is a person we all believe in and trust. Someone smart enough to make it a reality."

"And why, do you think you are that someone?" Ralph questioned. "Why do you feel like you are the most suitable person for the position? Why do you think you can shoulder the responsibility of being a king? And not just any king! The king of all the Monster clans.

"Ralph is right." King Klaus added. "Being King is not a game. Being king is not for everyone. A king must have more than intelligence. A King must have strength. The strength to protect all his subjects."

"I agree with your plan..." Klaus continued. "to unite the clans and to form a nation strong enough to defend our race. But to create a nation that strong, we need a King just as strong, or even stronger. Do you have what it takes?"

I looked around the room, took a deep breath, exhaled, and started. "It is said that great men do not seek to lead, they only answer when called. But I am not a great man. I am just a man who wants to protect my race. I will not wait to be called, I will do the calling myself. And I will answer my call. Because I know. That there is no time to waste time. Change is not coming, change was already here."
