Chereads / The Slothful King / Chapter 8 - MILLIS

Chapter 8 - MILLIS

Big horse-drawn carriages rolled into the city the next day.

It was the envoy of the Dwarves. One could tell just by the looking at the carriage. By first look you can tell it was not made with just any metal. Even the horses were clad in shiny armour.

Dwarves were a race of short but buff people, who are known for being skilled in crafting and metalwork.

These Dwarves were from the Arctic Dwarf Tribe. Their Tribe had been friendly with Monsters for a long time. But when Minora was formed, the Dwarf tribe followed the minor clans and settled with them.

As usual. They were led into a hall. Smaller than the one that had been used in meetings but still spacious. A long table divided the hall in two.

The Dwarves, six in total, sat on one side of the table. While the other three stood behind them.

The Dwarven Envoy consisted of the three tribe leaders and three Dwarves, who appeared to be their escorts or guards. The leader among the three of them was Sean, an Elder Dwarf. He sat in the middle.

King Klaus, Ash and I sat at the other side of the table.

King Klaus started. "Welcome my friends. First let me introduce you." He pointed at the dwarf in the middle. "This is Sean, the leader of the Elder Dwarves. To his left, is Tony, the leader of the Metal Dwarves, and Ria, the leader of Wood Dwarves. On this side," He said as he turned to us. "the Wolf prince, Jordan. And Ash, the leader of the Wolves in this city."

"Welcome." I said. "As King Klaus mentioned, I am Jordan. I won't waste much of our time. I am sure you have heard the news. We are unifying the Monster race. But there is something we did not disclose to the public. And that is why."

"Why? I didn't know you needed a reason." Tony mentioned.

"Monsters have gotten used to being on their own. Minora was the only exception. We needed a reason. And unfortunately, this reason is one that is very important. I found out that the veil is weakening."

"What?!" Ria shouted. They were shocked after hearing it. It was a really tough news to swallow. The look of fear and surprise on their face was similar to the one I saw on the faces of the clan leaders in the meeting.

"Is that even possible?!" Sean asked.

Their surprise was expected. The Demons did rage war on all the races. So of course there must have been casualties among the Dwarves.

"Yes. Unfortunately, our ancestors did not create the veil to last forever. But we have a plan. We plan to unite our race under a nation and grow our strength to protect our race. But. The monster race alone might not be enough to stop the Demons. That is why you are here."

"As our race and your tribe have been friends for over a millennia. We would like to offer you an alliance. One of equality for both races. If your tribe decides to ally with our nation, we will protect your tribe as if they were our. Because they will be. If you ally with us. I swear to protect your tribe as mine. So what do you say."

"Rahahaha." Sean burst into laughter. "Hmmm. I see. You are as wise as Klaus mentioned. You went straight to the facts and even gave reasons why the alliance would be favourable to us. You managed to explain it all in just a few sentences."

"Well." Sean looked at Ria and Tony beside him. They both gave a slight nod. "The truth is. We never expected the news about the veil. But after hearing about the unification of the Monster race, we had a meeting of our own. That was why our arrival was delayed."

"In that meeting," He continued. "we has already decided that we would ally with your nation. As long as you can promise us. Promise us equality and promise to defend us as you would your race. Then, we have ourselves an alliance."

I had planned and drafted different things we were going to offer them in exchange for their alliance but instead. Instead they agreed without even asking for anything other than our protection.

"I won't just promise you." I said. "I will swear it. I have been chosen by the leaders of all the Monster clans. If you agree to ally with us. Then in our nation, Monsters and Dwarves will be one race. We will swear allegiance to one another so we will be bound. Once bound, we will be allies forever."

"I can tell you have the strength to protect your people," Troy who had been silent the whole time finally said. "and the honour to follow through on your word. But you will need to grow stronger. A lot of nations will see us as a threat."

"We know. And we have made plans. We will tell you all about it."

"King Klaus said something about that... or should we call you Klaus now?" Tony asked.

"I will abdicate and Jordan will be crowned ruler. The ceremony is taking place in a week's time. But for now, I am still the King of Minora."

"Alright. King Klaus." Troy said as he bow his head a little.

After that King Klaus and Ash explained the situation about the plan to them. They went on to explain my plans, the parts I had told them about though, to the Dwarves. But then—

"Prince Jordan! Lord Ash!" A guard rushed into the room shouting and breathing heavily. He must have ran to us.

"What is it?" Ash rushed up and asked.

"Somethi—something is happening outside. In the courtyard. There's this strange golden light in the sky."

"Golden light?" I asked as I got to him.

"Yes, Prince Jordan."

We all rushed outside to witness this strange golden light he mentioned. A crowd had already gathered in the courtyard. The clan leaders, and some guards were present.

I looked up and saw the light. A bright golden light was shining in the sky above us. Immediately I looked up, the light beamed down right into the middle of the courtyard onto an empty space. It light was formed a small circle and began etching strange symbols onto the ground. That was when I knew. She was here!

"A Golden Sigil!" King Klaus exclaimed looking at the strange symbol.

I knew who it was. I knew who she was. I walked closer to the light. The symbol was still being etched to the ground.

*Golden Sigil: A rune like pattern etched into the ground where a celestial landed on Lyra. It serves as a seal to hold most of their powers and a way back to Olympia.*

Celestials were the most powerful beings apart from the Gods. Their presence alone was enough to cause magical disasters. So when Celestials descended to the lower realms. Their powers were sealed. Not all of their powers. But more than half.

"Look, the sigil is complete!" Someone shouted when the light stopped.

Oh. Here she comes. I thought as I moved closer to the sigil.

And so she descended. A tall but slender figure with two large pairs of wings descended slowly from the sky. It grew closer until it was right above us. It was a woman. She had beautiful silky blue hair, and deep blue eyes that looked like mine.

Two large pairs of snow-white wings sprouting from her back. Beautiful feathers rained down on us as she descended slowly. Her clothes shone of gold and white. She wore a smile as our eyes met. She stared at me with a certain glitter in her eyes.

I stretched my right hand up towards her. She extended hers towards mine.

Our hands touched. I held her hand as she came down.

Wow, such smooth and soft hands. I thought

"Jordan." She called with a soft alluring voice, as her bare feet touched the ground. Then her wings disappeared. Leaving only the feathers raining down on us slowly.

"Millis." I answered looking straight into her eyes. "You are here. Right in front of me. Finally. I have been waiting."

"I know. I just couldn't find the right time to leave. But I knew I had to be here before the crowning ceremony. So I stopped hesitating."

"I am glad you came."

"I am too. But I didn't expect you to be taller than I am."

She was a few inches shorter that me as I was looking down to talk to me. "I knew. Or I suspected. You look like an angel."

"I am an angel." She said, chuckling softly.

Aaah. Her laugh. An angel's laugh. No other way to explain it. I have loved her since the first moment I saw her. In my dream.

We met twelve years ago.

I was still just a kid. We met in my dream. It was the strangest dream. I found myself somewhere I had never seen before. A field, filled with flowers. The field extended as far as my eyes could see. But there was something odd.

A tree. Just one, sitting in the middle of the field. I walked towards it. As I got closer, I saw something. A girl sitting down resting on the tree. A little girl who looked around my age but different. She had two pairs of wings on her back. I walked to her. As I got close, she looked up and smiled at me.

I fell in love with her right then and there.

"Hi." She said in a soft beautiful voice. "What's your name?" She asked as she stood up.

"Jordan." I answered. She wore a beautiful white dress that flowed as the wind blew past her.

"Hmm. I am Millis." She said. She already knew my name of course. But I was unaware at the time.

"Uhm, okay. Where is this and what are you?" I asked looking around the field confused.

"We are in your dream. Or maybe my dream. I am not really sure whose dream though. And as for me, I am a celestial."

" Ooh! Is that why you have wings?"

"Yea."

"So!... Why are we here?"

"You ask a lot of questions don't you? Anyway. I wanted to meet you."

"Me?" I asked her since I was feeling puzzled.

"Yes. You."

"Why?"

"I guess I was curious." She said.

"I don't understand."

"My mother has only ever given one other person a blessing before. Then she gave you."

"Your mother? Blessing? I still don't understand.

"You will, I assure you. We will meet again." She said, then I woke up.
