Sarah didn't know what to make of James. Part of her wanted to believe that he was telling the truth, but another part of her was convinced that he was hiding something.
Over the next few days, she tried to avoid him as much as possible. But no matter where she went, he always seemed to be there, watching her.
One day, as she was walking home from the bookstore, she heard footsteps behind her. She turned around and saw James following her.
"What do you want?" she asked, her voice shaking.
"I want to help you, Sarah," James said, his voice calm. "I know you're scared, and I want to make sure you're safe."
Sarah didn't know what to say. Part of her wanted to run away, but another part of her was desperate for answers.
"Okay," she said finally. "What do you know?"
James led her to a small café and ordered them both coffee. As they sat down, he began to tell her about the history of the town.
"This town has a dark past," James said. "There have been strange occurrences here for centuries. But no one talks about it."
Sarah listened, her heart racing. She had always known that there was something strange about the town, but she had never imagined anything like this.
"What kind of strange occurrences?" she asked.
"Hauntings," James said. "People disappearing. Strange murders."
Sarah felt sick to her stomach. She had always felt like there was something off about the town, but she had never imagined anything like this.
"But why?" she asked. "Why would all of this happen here?"
James shrugged. "No one knows for sure. Some people think it's because of the land. Others think it's because of some kind of curse. But whatever the reason, the town is cursed."
Sarah felt a chill run down her spine. She knew that James was telling the truth, and that the town was in danger.
"But what can we do?" she asked.
"We need to find out the truth," James said. "We need to uncover the secrets of this town, and find a way to break the curse."
Sarah knew that he was right. They needed to do something before it was too late.
Over the next few days, Sarah and James began to investigate the town. They visited the local library and poured over old newspapers, searching for clues. They talked to people in the town, trying to piece together the history of the area.
As they delved deeper into the town's past, they uncovered more and more disturbing information. They discovered that the mansion Sarah had visited was once owned by a wealthy family who had all been murdered in their sleep. They found out that there had been several other murders in the town over the years, all with a similar pattern.
But despite their best efforts, they couldn't find any leads. No one would talk to them, and everyone seemed to be hiding something.
One night, Sarah was lying in bed, trying to sleep. She couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching her.
Suddenly, she heard a noise outside her window. She sat up and saw a figure standing outside, watching her.
She screamed and ran out of the room, but the figure was gone by the time she got outside.
The next day, she told James what had happened. He listened intently, then led her to the back of the bookstore.
"I think I know who's behind all of this," he said.
Sarah felt her heart racing. She had a feeling that she wasn't going to like what she was about to hear.
"Who?" she asked.
"It's the town council," James said. "They're the ones who have been hiding the-
