The next day, Alex woke up and looked at Katie with confusion. She explained everything that she had witnessed the night before, and he listened intently. They both knew that they had to do something, but they weren't sure what.
"Should we try to escape?" Alex asked, his voice shaking with fear.
Katie thought for a while before answering. "I don't know if that's the best option. We have to help the other kids in here too. We need to figure out what's going on and stop it."
Alex nodded, taking in what she had said. "But we should have a plan to escape just in case things get too dangerous. We can't risk our lives for this."
Katie agreed, and the two of them spent the rest of the day coming up with a plan.
They decided to start by talking to the other kids in the orphanage and gathering information. They knew that there were risks involved, but they had to do something. They couldn't just sit back and watch as Miss Craven and the caretakers did as they pleased.
Over the next few days, they talked to as many kids as they could, gathering information about what was going on in the orphanage. They heard stories of other kids disappearing in the middle of the night, and there were rumors of underground tunnels beneath the orphanage.
As they continued to investigate, Alex and Katie began to fear for their lives. They knew that they were getting dangerously close to the truth, and they didn't know what would happen if they were caught.
One night, as they were sneaking around the orphanage, they heard footsteps behind them. They turned around to see Miss Craven standing there, a sinister smile on her face.
"Well well well, what do we have here?" she sneered. "Some little rats scurrying around in the dark."
Alex and Katie knew that they had to act fast. They ran as fast as they could, but Miss Craven was hot on their heels.
As they ran towards the exit, they realized that the door was locked. They were trapped.
Just as Miss Craven was closing in on them, Katie remembered the tunnel that she had heard about. Without a second thought, she grabbed Alex's hand and pulled him towards the nearest wall.
As they pushed against it, they realized that it was a hidden door. They pushed it open and ran into the dark tunnel.
They had no idea where the tunnel would lead them, but they knew that it was their only hope for escape. They ran as fast as they could, their hearts pounding with fear.
As they emerged from the tunnel on the other side, they looked back at the orphanage, unsure if they would ever return. But they knew one thing for sure: they had to stop whatever was going on inside those walls, and they would do whatever it took to make it happen.
