Chapter 11 - Chapter 10: Mother was too much of a coward

Crystal-like tears ran down Kanae's cheeks, reaching her lips. Her eyes blinked and more tears rolled down her soft skin. But before they fell, a gentle hand wiped them off, caressing her skin.

Startled, Kanae glanced at Roku, who had a slight smile on his face. A small blush spread on her face. She knew that Roku had already given in to her. Now, the rest was up to her.

They didn't speak, didn't make much noise.

A soft subtle fragrance of cherry blossoms wafted out from her, making him inhale deeply, and tighten his hold. She embraced him tightly, feeling warm and protected.

A handsome youth held an embarrassed girl, the floor cool against their warm, burning skin.

Her hands ran down his luscious long hair. "Roku." She whispered, the love evident in her tone.

He looked down at her with mixed feelings. Looked at the girl who had managed to make him fall for her. Who had destroyed his patience, his calm. And who would be the reason for his demise.

Kanae couldn't think.

All her brain could think of was how amazing this man in her arms was. He made her fall hard into his trap and she happily stayed in it.

The only thing that she whispered the whole time was, "Roku, I love you."

To which, Roku replied, nuzzling her neck, "Me too, Kanae."

------------------------

Alas, they couldn't remain happy.

Their demise arrived soonafter.

Right in between a pool of blood, lay a blood covered Roku. Sitting beside him in despair, was none other than Kanae, mouth agape in horror.

Unbelievable anger and sorrow leapt in her heart and she let out a heart wrenching cry. She screamed and screamed Roku's name, but nothing happened. He never woke up. And never will.

Sobbing, Kanae touched her swollen belly, murmuring, "I'm so sorry, my baby. Your mother was too much of a coward."

And then, there were none.

--------------

Bright blue eyes opened wide, scaring the hell out of the couple looking after her.

"Honoured Miss! How are you feeling now?!" Miao asked fervently, checking Kanae's pulse and eyes.

Ed hurriedly prepared a bowl of water, and gave it to Kanae to drink.

A dizzy Kanae drank some water, and calmed downstairs. When her mind cleared, she stiffened up.

"What the heck?!" Kanae whisperer, flinging off the cover of moss over her. She looked around, and sure enough, she was back in that cave.

The last she remembered, she was facing off some monster. But then... What happened?

She racked her brains to remember something, but her memories were hazy. Whatever occurred after her seeing that monster, is a total mystery. She didn't even know what kind of a monster it was.

Also, that dream she just had. The girl felt so familiar, as if she was her long-lost sister.

'What was her name?' Kanae mused, bur couldn't remember this either. 'Stupid brain, why don't you work when you have to!? But damn, that man was hot.' She drooled, a silly smile on her face.

"Honoured Miss? What's wrong with you?" Ed asked worriedly, seeing Kanae talk to herself and stay silent for too long. He was worried that something might have happened to her inside the cave. Maybe... She became dumb?

'Wait. If I had killed the Dungeon Master, I would have gotten a message from the system. Which means... It's not dead.' Kanae quickly made her assumptions. Not paying heed to the couple, she once again went towards the hole, only to see nothing there.

"Eh?" Now, she was more confused. "You two, where did you both find me?" She asked, turning towards the two love birds.

Miao answered, "When I was going to light the fire again, I saw you lying on the ground unconscious, and immediately helped you up." She nodded fervently, as if wanting to prove herself right.

Kanae's eyes grew a little dull. What was going on here? There was a monster whose description is unknown. She had no memories of their meeting, and she definitely didn't want to get trapped here.

'C'mon Kanae, think, think. Being able to wipe my memory, it should have some spiritual power. I feel like I probably saw something that wasn't meant to be seen, and now I'm getting punished for it. But what power is it? What level do I have to be to defeat the Dungeon Master? Can the system check?'

Unfortunately, the system announced no such investigation method. Kanae let out a' oof' and sat down back again. This was something that won't be solved that easily at all.

After all, the enemy is an unknown, taking any risks, would mean messing with the future. 'If that monster can make me forget my memories, it can do it yet again. It has the power. Even if it doesn't do so, it can still take advantage of my weak state and trap me.'

And that made Kanae so mad.

She yearned to smash the monster' s face in and tell it that it was stupid. It was so annoying! This system of hers was useless too. But at least, she got to understand that nothing will happen unless she starts collecting clues. Detective Kanae, to the rescue!

She had to start investigating the source. The hole which had mysteriously disappeared.

The monster could have possibly relocated. With its powers, it wouldn't be tough to fabricate a new home. But the question was, where would it build a home next?

More importantly, why hadn't it killed Kanae?

This train of thoughts let Kanae realise that the higher-levelled Dungeon Masters would probably have a more developed way of thinking. It probably wanted something she had with her. And since she wasn't dead, it'll definitely appear again.

Considering nothing was missing on her, the Dungeon Master couldn't obtain what it wanted when she was unconscious..

"Heh, not that easy to rob me."

"Miss, what do you mean? Someone tried to rob you?" Ed questioned with a serious look in his eyes.

Kanae waved away his concern and told them to cook food, it was getting late anyway.

As for the Dungeon Master, she'll go and deal with it now.
