"Wen Xi Lan!"
Just as little dumpling was contemplating, he heard the strict voice of his father calling him.
Instantly he startled and looked behind him. The stern expression in his father face scared him and so his little legs quickly ran to him.
"What did I tell you about wandering off!" His father stared at him.
Wen Xi Lan pouted and looked down in regret and reproach. He wanted to rebel, to argue back that his father had ignored him while he was working and would not play with him, but his voice just will not come out.
"If you have anything to say speak out loud." His father encouraged.
Wen Xi Lan opened his little mouth, but no sound came. Giving up immediately, he simply went to grab his backpack and ignored his father.
Wen JunXi sighed deeply. His sigh was a mixture of helplessness and worry.
Every doctor that had a look at Wen Xi Lan proclaimed him a healthy child, they said his speech was not delayed, he was just refusing to speak.
That was because he was still able to articulate and express himself. He communicated whatever he wanted through writing and hand gestures. He was very smart for his age, the doctors said he had a chance of becoming a prodigy in the future.
Although the Wen Family, specifically Madam Wen had nurtured him from birth and met all his needs, the fact that Wen Xi Lan refused to speak bothered all of them.
The psychiatrist that had seen him had a vague sense of why Wen Xi Lan refused to speak. It was because he was motherless. The child had every need met apart from the feeling of security within oneself.
When he was a baby, Madam Wen would always encourage the then incorrigible Wen JunXi—who was focused solely on finding his Yan Yan—to spend more time with his son, play with him and getting to know him. Eventually Wen JunXi listened. He got out of the slump resulted from losing his wife and began to focus on his son.
However, when Wen JunXi got out of the slump, he had already missed two years of his son's development. Wen JunXi was guilty about this and blamed himself as the reason why his son was now refusing to talk. For the next two years he would do everything to atone for this mistake and spend time with his son.
This is why Wen JunXi then now took Wen Xi Lan with him everywhere he went even his business trips.
His reasoning was that travelling, meeting new people and different air would stimulate his small mind and induce him to ask question and speak.
However, the stubborn Wen Xi Lan still refused to communicate verbally. He was the exact replica of his father. They both had similar stubborn personalities.
Although Wen JunXi had took his son everywhere during this trip, the toddler just kept to himself and his technology.
When Wen JunXi confiscated that tablet from him, Wen Xi Lan threw a humongous tantrum. In the end, Wen JunXi was helpless.
Although outward he was stern and stiff with his son's upbringing, deep down he truly loved him. Him not speaking for this long really bothered Wen JunXi. That was why he would listen to Madam Wen and take time off work to leisurely spend with his son. He even went to see psychiatrists with him.
Every doctor Wen JunXi went to all said Wen Xi Lan needed a mother and encouraged Wen JunXi to remarry.
Knowing this was out of question and not an option, Wen JunXi would throw his own adult tantrum and blacklist those poor doctors.
To this day, his search for Yan Yan was ongoing. Although it's been four years and still no news of her. Even though Bai Jiu insisted that she had killed her, the fact that her body was still yet to be found gave Wen JunXi hope that she still alive somewhere out there.
After searching the whole country and still not finding her, Wen JunXi concluded that Yan Yan had went abroad. Finding her abroad was impossible but he still gave money to those investigators to keep searching.
