Maya and her group of survivors continued their journey across the barren wasteland. As they walked, they encountered a group of raiders who had set up camp in an abandoned warehouse.
"Stay back," Maya whispered to the group. "We need to be careful."
They watched from a distance as the raiders feasted on stolen goods. Maya knew they needed to get past the camp without being detected.
Suddenly, a loud noise caught the raiders' attention, and they began to approach the group's hiding spot.
"We need to move now," Maya whispered urgently.
As they ran past the camp, one of the raiders spotted them and gave chase. Maya turned to face the attacker, her heart racing.
"Stop!" Maya shouted, holding up her hands. "We don't want any trouble."
The raider laughed menacingly, brandishing a knife. "You don't get it, do you? In this world, it's kill or be killed."
Maya's heart sank as the raider lunged towards her. She ducked and dodged, trying to avoid the blade, but it was no use. The raider was too quick, and Maya was soon overpowered.
"Get off her!" a voice yelled.
Maya looked up to see Charlie, the elderly man they had rescued from the convenience store, wielding a metal pipe.
"Charlie, what are you doing?" Maya asked in disbelief.
"I won't let you hurt her," Charlie said, swinging the pipe at the raider.
The raider backed off, and Maya got to her feet, shaking her head in disbelief.
"Charlie, you saved my life," she said.
"We have to look out for each other," Charlie replied. "It's the only way we'll survive."
As they continued on their journey, Maya couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude towards Charlie. He had surprised her with his bravery, and she knew that she could count on him in the future.
