Chapter 30 - Starfinder

Master Alaric approaches as the trio were discussing the scarce information they had found regarding the whereabouts of the Draconic Sanctuary.

Master Alaric's eyes twinkled with a hint of mischief. "Ah, yes, finding the Draconic Sanctuary is no simple task. It has remained shrouded in mystery for centuries. Few have ventured to its hidden realm, and even fewer have returned to share their tales. However, my father, Elric, passed down a secret to me – an ancient artifact that will reveal the path to the Sanctuary."

He led Kael and his friends to a secure chamber deep within the academy, where a small, ornate box rested on a velvet cushion. "This," Master Alaric said, "is the Starfinder. A priceless antique that has been in our family for generations."

He carefully lifted the lid of the box, revealing a small, intricately carved object that resembled a compass. The Starfinder glowed with an ethereal light, its surface adorned with celestial symbols and constellations.

"My father told me of a celestial event that occurs only once every few years. The stars align in the shape of a dragon, a celestial beacon guiding the way to the Draconic Sanctuary. Next month during the full moon, is the night when this rare event takes place."

Master Alaric handed the Starfinder to Kael, his eyes filled with the gravity of the moment. "Elric entrusted this artifact to me, and now I entrust it to you. When the time comes, it will reveal the path to the Draconic Sanctuary. The stars have chosen this moment for you, Kael. It is no coincidence that you stand here before the occurrence of this celestial event."

Kael's eyes widened as he held the Starfinder, feeling its warmth and energy pulsating in harmony with his heartbeat. He looked up at Master Alaric, a mixture of excitement and trepidation filling his chest.

"Master, what kind of dangers might we face on our journey to the Draconic Sanctuary?" Kael asked, seeking guidance.

Master Alaric took a deep breath, his eyes reflecting the weight of his words. "The journey will be perilous, young mage. You may face treacherous terrain, powerful creatures, and magical barriers. You must be well-prepared and vigilant, for only the most determined will reach the Sanctuary."

Luna and Rorik exchanged glances, their expressions resolute. They knew that they would support Kael no matter the risks.

"Where must we be in order to observe the celestial beacon?" Luna inquired.

Master Alaric smiled, "The ancient texts say that the best place to observe the celestial beacon is from the peak of the Aetherian Mountains. It is the tallest mountain in the region and offers an unobstructed view of the heavens."

Rorik raised an eyebrow. "And what do we have to do to follow the celestial beacon once we see it?"

Master Alaric explained, "You must use the Starfinder at the exact moment when the stars align in the shape of a dragon. The artifact will resonate with the celestial energy and reveal a path that will guide you to the Draconic Sanctuary. Remember, the window of opportunity is brief, and you must act quickly."

The friends nodded, absorbing the information. They spent a few days preparing for their journey. They studied maps of the region and gathered essential supplies, including magical gear and enchanted potions.

A week passed as, Kael, Luna, and Rorik sat in the academy's library, surrounded by stacks of books and scrolls detailing the known magical gear in the realm of Anduron. Luna, her hair pulled back into a tight bun, began to explain some of the items they might need for their upcoming journey.

"You see, Kael, magical gear is crafted by skilled artisans who have spent years mastering the art of imbuing everyday objects with magical properties. They use rare materials and enchanted components to create these wonders," Luna explained, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

Rorik chimed in, "Yeah, some of the best magical gear comes from the Enchanted Bazaar in the city of Illyria. That place is filled with magical items from all over Anduron, and some say even beyond!"

Luna nodded in agreement. "It's true. At the bazaar, you'll find potions, enchanted cloaks, magically enhanced weapons, and so much more. But, as students at the academy, we're provided with some basic magical gear that should serve us well on our journey."

She gestured to her own attire, highlighting the shimmering fabric of her robe. "Take these robes, for example. They're enchanted to protect us from the elements and help regulate our body temperature in extreme conditions."

Rorik grinned, holding up a small pouch. "And don't forget about these! Every student gets a Bottomless Bag. It's charmed to hold way more stuff than you'd think by just looking at it. Perfect for carrying all our supplies on this little adventure of ours."

Kael listened intently, marveling at the wonders of magical gear. "What about weapons?" he asked, curious about the weapons used by the various mages.

Luna and Rorik exchanged glances, both excited to share their knowledge of magical weapons. Rorik began, "Magical weapons are a bit more complex than regular gear. You see, each mage's weapon is unique, as it's often imbued with the essence of their magical abilities and personal affinities."

Luna chimed in, "That's right. For example, a fire mage might have a staff that can summon flames or a sword that's always engulfed in fire. On the other hand, an earth mage could wield a hammer that can cause the ground to shake with each strike, just like Rorik!"

"The process of creating a magical weapon is quite intricate," Rorik added. "It typically involves enchanting the weapon with runes and spells, infusing it with magical energy, and forging a bond between the weapon and its wielder. This bond allows the mage to channel their magical power through the weapon, enhancing their spells and abilities."

Luna continued, "Magical weapons can be found or purchased from skilled enchanters, though they tend to be quite rare and expensive. Some mages even choose to create their own weapons, forging a stronger connection between themselves and their tool of choice."

"At the academy, students are often provided with basic magical weapons to aid in their training," Rorik explained. "However, as they progress and develop their skills, many students seek out more powerful and personalized weapons to match their growing abilities."

Luna frowned, suddenly realizing something. "Kael, you've never actually chosen a weapon of your own, have you?"

Kael thought for a moment and shook his head. "No, I've just been using the standard academy-issued staff. I suppose it's about time I find something that's truly mine."

Rorik clapped his hands together excitedly. "Well, that settles it! Tomorrow, we'll take you to the enchanted armory in town. It's the perfect place to find a weapon that suits you. I bet they have everything from magical staffs and wands to enchanted swords and daggers!"

Kael's eyes widened at the prospect of choosing his own weapon, and he felt a thrill of excitement run through him. He could hardly wait for the next day, when he would take the first step in forging his own magical identity, armed with a weapon that was uniquely his.
