Chapter 9 - Introduction to the Tiered System

The Luminis Academy of Arcane Arts ranks the magic potential of its students using a comprehensive grading system, with SSS being the highest tier and F being the lowest. This ranking system assesses students based on several key factors, including their innate magical talent, adaptability, and progress in mastering various schools of magic.

SSS Tier: Supreme Magical Prodigy - These students possess exceptional innate magical talent, demonstrating extraordinary prowess in multiple schools of magic. They exhibit rapid learning abilities and are expected to make groundbreaking achievements in the magical field. Only a handful of students ever achieve this prestigious ranking.

SS Tier: Elite Magical Genius - These students display remarkable magical aptitude and excel in one or more schools of magic. They show great potential for innovation and are considered future leaders in their respective magical fields.

S Tier: Superior Magic Talent - Students in this tier possess a high level of magical talent and consistently perform well in their studies. They demonstrate a strong foundation in their chosen schools of magic and have the potential to achieve greatness.

A Tier: Advanced Magic Practitioner - These students have a solid understanding of magic and are proficient in one or more schools. They show promise for further development and are expected to contribute to the magical community.

B Tier: Skilled Magic Apprentice - Students in this tier have a good grasp of basic magical concepts and show potential for growth. They may excel in one particular school of magic but require further training and experience to reach their full potential.

C Tier: Competent Magic Student - These students demonstrate an adequate understanding of magic but may struggle with more advanced concepts or techniques. They require consistent practice and guidance to improve their skills.

D Tier: Developing Magic Novice - Students in this tier have a basic understanding of magic but lack proficiency in most schools. They often require additional support and training to progress in their magical studies.

E Tier: Basic Magic Practitioner - Students in this tier have a foundational understanding of magic and are able to perform basic spells in one or more schools. They show potential for growth but require consistent practice and guidance to advance their skills.

F Tier: Struggling Magic Initiate - These students possess limited magical talent and struggle with even basic magical concepts. They require significant guidance and support to achieve any measure of success in their magical studies.

The academy uses this ranking system to identify students with exceptional potential, as well as to provide appropriate support and resources for those who may be struggling. By continuously assessing and adjusting a student's ranking, the academy ensures that each individual receives tailored guidance and instruction that best suits their needs and abilities.

As the trio made their way to the Arcane Banquet for lunch, they marveled at the grandeur of the dining hall. The high, vaulted ceilings adorned with enchanted chandeliers and intricate murals captivated them, while the long wooden tables provided a welcoming atmosphere for the diverse student body. This magical dining hall was a place where students could bond over their shared passion for the arcane arts and take a break from their demanding studies.

Once they settled into their seats, Rorik mentioned, "I always knew you had a bit of darkness in you! Hahaha, but who would have thought you'd have an affinity for the dark element, despite your F-tier result? You know, even the best mages have their own unique strengths and weaknesses! You just need to find your own path, buddy!" He gave another slap on Kael's back, his enthusiasm nearly knocking Kael down.

Luna smiled warmly, her eyes shining with a mixture of joy and pride as she softly spoke, her voice filled with genuine happiness. "You're still the boy that fell from the sky, Kael. Don't let the test results get you down," she said with a gentle laugh. "You've got a bright future ahead of you here at the academy. I believe in you." Despite her shy demeanor, there was a strength in her words that conveyed her unwavering support for Kael.

But deep inside, Luna still harbored a sense of worry and fear. As one of the two people who had witnessed Kael's demonic transformation, she couldn't shake off the concern about what the future might hold for him. Would his dark elemental affinity ultimately bring him happiness and success, or would it lead him down a dangerous path that would threaten the fate of Elyria?

With these thoughts lingering in her mind, she resolved to keep a close eye on Kael, ready to report to Master Alaric if there were any signs of the darkness taking hold of his consciousness. Luna knew that, more than ever, her support and vigilance would be crucial in helping Kael navigate the challenges that lay ahead. She was determined to stand by him and be the friend and ally he needed in the uncertain journey that awaited him.

Luna turned back to Kael and began explaining the academy's tiered class system. "The academy implements a tiered class system based on students' magical potential, consisting of three classes: Elite, Advanced, and General. The Elite Class caters to the most gifted students with ranks SSS, SS, and S, providing specialized training and exclusive resources, , but so far only a few geniuses are inside. The Advanced Class serves students with ranks A, B and C, offering a comprehensive education in magic and various extracurricular opportunities. The General Class focuses on building a solid foundation in magic for students with ranks D, E, and F, emphasizing practical application and hands-on learning. Students are periodically re-evaluated to ensure proper placement, allowing for progress through the tiers as their abilities improve."

She paused for a moment, allowing Kael to absorb the information. "Well, I managed to get a B tier along with wind affinity, don't be shy to approach me if you need any help, we'll help each other through this journey."

Rorik's expression grew somber, his eyes downcast. "I'm a little disappointed, though. We won't be in the same class, Kael. I ended up in the Advanced Class with Luna, a B tier along with earth affinity." He glanced at Kael and sighed.

Kael nodded, grateful for Luna and Rorik's support, and felt a renewed sense of determination. He knew it would be in his best interest to have his friends by his side as he navigated the challenges of Luminis Academy, especially with the lurking threat of Corvin and his underlings in the shadow.
