After the announcement of admitted students into the sickbay, the excuse of having to strain your body to become stronger was given. The number of students in class had now lessened.
Rose waited rather impatiently for the twins to wake up. She needed them to help the other students regain their affinity for magic, at least she needed them to try. Fortunately, they were the first ones to wake up. Janet immediately informed her when they did. Dropping everything she was doing, Rose ran to the sick bay and saw two aching young boys.
"So this is what they look like," she said inwardly. Asides from when they were still babies, she hadn't set eyes on them. She noticed the striking semblance they had of their parents. Although, they had same hair and eyes as their mother, they looked more like their father. Hopefully, they won't be much trouble as their father has been told to be.
"Kiyan and Raten, I presume?" She said walking closer to them. She noticed the confused expressions they had on.
They woke up wondering where they were and how they ended up there in the first place. They were even more baffled by the number of students around them. Most of which they recognized to be in the same homeroom class as them. They would have asked the school's healer some questions but she immediately dashed off as soon as she saw them.
They wanted to leave after that, but their muscles were extremely sore. They could barely get up on their feet.
"Hey Kiyan, do you have the slightest idea as to how we got here?" Raten sat up and asked his brother who was trying to stand and failing.
"Do I look like I do?" Kiyan answered frustratingly, while looking around. "Is that... the porcupine, quiet guy?" He suddenly asked with his gaze fixed on a particular person.
"Rodney?" Raten asked following his brother's eyes to see whom he was looking at. Kiyan gave a very vague and odd description of him, but Raten always knew what his brother was talking about no matter how stupidly stated it was.
"Yes, he's over there." Kiyan pointed at a dark haired unconscious boy laid about ten beds to the right from them. "What happened?" He asked, but there was no one who could give him an answer. Just then, Janet returned with an unfamiliar person.
"Kiyan and Raten, I presume." She said and walked towards them. "Leave us," she said calmly and Janet obliged. She left the sickbay and closed the doors behind her.
"I finally get to see the two of you again," she suddenly said with a smile.
"Again? Have we met before?" Raten asked.
"Yes, but, you wouldn't remember. You both were still babies then. I honestly thought you both would be dead by now. I was quite surprised when I was informed of your coming to this academy," she said simply.
"Who are you?" Kiyan tilted his head and asked.
"Rose Silverstone, a Professor in this prestigious academy and the daughter of..."
"Cousin Demas!" Kiyan said as he figured it out.
"Really?" Raten asked and looked at her with widened eyes. "When he said you were in Darkmoon, I thought he meant as a student and not a professor."
"Wait, how come you are a professor? The other professors are quite old. You don't even look older than Teacher Chadwick and he's not even a professor yet." Kiyan said.
"Looks does not define age nowadays," she stated simply. "And who says I need to be old to be one."
"Oh yes, we forgot this is a world of magic. Even our uncles do not look their age." Kiyan almost face palmed.
"Enough about me, I need to talk to you concerning this," she said and her eyes diverted to the surrounding.
"Right. We were curious as well. What happened? Why are we here?" Kiyan asked.
"Also, I am very hungry. That must mean we've been here for quite a while, yes?" Raten asked.
"You've been here for a day and half." She answered bluntly. "As for why? Well, you're the reason. In class, during your mana build lesson, the both of you..." she trailed off. She looked at the two boys busy conversing and paying no attention to her words.
"She looks nothing like her father," said Raten.
"Perhaps, she looks like her mother," Kiyan replied.
"In that case, her mother must be really beautiful," Raten said and Kiyan nodded.
"Indeed."
"Are you both listening to me?!" She raised her voice a bit bringing their attention back to the pressing matter. They seriously ignored her after asking the questions themselves.
"Yes, we are." They responded simultaneously while nodding their heads.
"You were saying something about our lesson about mana...?" Kiyan jolted her to continue.
"First, I want to ask if the both of you know what's inside of you?" She asked.
"Yes, our organs!" They said in unison.
"Not that! I'm talking about the reason for that glow in your chests," she said.
They both looked down and saw their chest were emitting a green glow. "Oh? I didn't realize it was glowing again." Kiyan uttered a soliloquy.
"Yes, we know what's there." Raten answered.
"So you know that you have to protect it. I have reason to believe that you both have faced a near death experience before from the sense of death Professor Elvis got and I am getting now as well,"
"Near death experience? You can say that, yes." Kiyan answered.
"You also know how powerful it is, right?"
"Barely."
"Well, it is very powerful and it's the reason everyone here is laid unconscious. When you opened your mana link, what Elvis was teaching was the one that would have it's limit at your capacity. Although he shouldn't have brought up something like that so early, he never thought that there were two students who's inner part was a mana devouring item. As soon as the both of you opened that link, it started consuming the mana of whomever and whatever was near." She explained.
"Is that what happened? I only remember saying the word Kàshr and then everything got bright. I felt a surge of energy, that hurt by the way, and then everything went black." Raten said.
"Me too," Kiyan added.
"It was extremely painful?" Rose asked.
"Yes, it was."
"It felt like receiving a lightning blast followed by a flame attack from our father." Raten described the immense pain.
"It hurt that bad? Well, I'm not surprised. Though it can contain it, your body is still too weak and that's why it...." she trailed off thinking about what they just said. "Your father throws that kind of attacks at the two of you?!" She asked in surprise.
"Mhmm." They nodded. Her look of shock was replaced with one of pity. The time she spent with their father, she knew everything he ever thought of was strength and he must be getting his sons ready for the enemies they have.
"He doesn't let it heal you, does he?" She asked.
"No, he does it himself or your father does." Kiyan replied.
"That's a relief." She sighed. "Back to the situation we are facing, I need you two to help me."
"Help you?"
"Yes." She went on to explain how some of the students were not able to use mana again and what they needed to do revert that. The twins blatantly refused to help. They didn't see why they should try to help. It was not entirely their fault, it was their body. In fact they put the blame on Elvis and said he was reckless for assuming everyone as beginners had a small amount of mana their bodies could hold.
Rose rubbed her temples in frustration. They were not listening to her at all. "You are so much like him." She groaned.
"Listen, all we are saying is, less wizards, less people we have to deal with in the future." Kiyan said.
"We have seen enough and know that everyone here is a potential threat to our lives, so we will not help." Raten said.
Rose was made quiet by their response. She stared at them before letting out a sigh. "What if I say that no matter what happens in school, I will keep you out of trouble. And seeing as you are really concerned about your 'enemies', if I offered to help train you more after classes, then will you help?"
The twins stopped to think about her offer while rubbing their chin, which Rose found cute. They nodded at each other and then turned to her and gave their answer.
