Chapter 25 - Fight 2 (Part 2)

Raten's hands began to glow brightly as lightning streaks formed around them. The image of lightning in a condensed solid form was in his head and he tried to imitate it. "I should be able to do something this simple." He said to himself. If only he knew it wasn't exactly as easy as he thought. Only due to the words of his father, he believed so.

"You keep lying to these boys." One-eye scoffed.

"What do you mean? To me, it's easy. So I told him just that, and besides, he's been practicing. He should be able to get it right." Agnar retorted.

The light that shone on Raten's hands blinded the birds for a while, stopping them from advancing further or trying to attack him. When the light dimmed, what looked like small dual blades formed by lightning were in his hands, constantly pulsating with power.

"I did it!" He exclaimed in glee. His lips curved upward slightly as he now stared at the three-headed abominations that were ready to attack once more. 'If I strike them with magic I will just be striking myself. But if I use it as a weapon, it should do some damage without being sent back,' he hoped.

'Besides, this should deal more damage than my blades.' he thought looking at the blades which fell in different directions when he was sent flying by the lightning shots. There was one thought lingering in his mind that he didn't want to bother about for an explanation was not needed, instead, he was thankful. He was still conscious and could move, that was in itself a wonder.

"Come at me ugly!" He yelled and took a stance ready to take them on.

The three birds leaped forward and with the foamy liquid in their mouths aimed at Raten. Simultaneously, the beasts spat out their poison at Raten who quickly moved out of the way landing directly in front of the one with a broken beak. Before it made a move, Raten swung his legs at one of its heads, kicking it to the side.

With his lightning blades, he swung at another head, which moved. Still, he landed a hit on the third head causing a deep cut that bled profusely. Always being on his toes and sensing an attack from behind, Raten ducked and moved out of the way, avoiding a venom spit that landed on the second head of the beast that avoided Raten's attack melting it in an instant. An attack like that, Raten was sure would not be reflected.

*HONK!! HONK!!

The remnant heads of the bird cried out loudly while Raten was locked in battle with the other two. Evading another venom spit and a chomp, Raten stabbed one of the birds through the chest, sending multiple shocks into its body and leaving the lightning blade in the beast's body.

*HONK!! HONK!! HONK!!

It cried out while being shocked seemingly to death. Raten was left with one blade and two beasts. One with a bleeding eye and the other with a melted head.

"Let's dance." Raten grinned and dashed forward. So did the birds, moving with a streak of purple lines behind them. Raten's free hand began glowing again while he went on the attack with the one that held the blade.

Lightning bolts left his feet after the birds. Stunning them while he advanced to slice off the heads of the beasts before they will be able to strike back. He swung his hands fast aiming at one of the heads, but before he could do anything, he noticed the beast's feathers glowed even brighter and knew what this meant. He immediately jumped back and moved to avoid the lightning bolts. 'This was faster than last time.' He noticed. Seeing the blade had formed in his hand he had a plan to get rid of them.

Moving swiftly he ran in zigzags avoiding the venom spit till he got close enough. He then threw the lightning blades at both of them. They moved and avoided it. And ran forward but then stopped and fell to the ground, shaking vigorously. Raten had controlled the blades so they navigated through and stabbed the birds through their backs.

With a grin on his face, he moved to pick up his actual blades. "Looks like we're done here." He said and looked at the three birds with their feathers standing on their ends and their scaly skin turning black.

"Now, how do I get out of here?" He wondered looking around.

"Is that it? Send in more of them, in fact, a different beast." Agnar demanded clearly not pleased with the fight.

"Be patient Agnar, he's not done," Raymond stated.

As Raten took a step forward, he heard subtle sounds of movements.

*honk! A very low honking sound was made stopping Raten in his path. "Don't tell me..." He drifted off, hoping he wouldn't turn around to find more birds. Slowly turning back, Raten was shocked to see three burnt up looking birds with messed up feathers. "How are you still alive?!" He yelled and rubbed his temples with a frown. 'They should be on their last legs,' he thought. But looking closely at the birds, he noticed something different.

The blades made of lightning looked to be absorbed by the beasts. Streaks of lightning moved around their body as their skin continued pulsating. Slowly, they lifted their large wings and began flapping them.

Their bodies were gradually lifted off the ground as they went aloft. Their sights are still set on Raten.

"This can not be good," Raten said looking up at the beasts.

They reached a certain level and their body began to glow brightly. This time, instead of purple, it glowed white. Raten's eyes widened as he realized what was about to happen. "Oh no." He ran in any direction he could find. The birds with their wings in place, not flapping making it seem as though they hovered in the air followed him slowly from above.

Still running as fast as he could, Raten tried to avoid what was to come. Rain. Lightning bolts fell like rain from the bodies of the birds. With every blast, trees fell, some caught on fire, and parts of the land were chucked up forming craters. Raten still ran forward using every strength he could muster in his legs and ran.

Some lightning bolts missed Raten by the skin of his teeth. Striking the vegetation by his side. "Is this because I called you ugly? I'm sorry!" Raten yelled still running forward. Jumping over rocks, and skipping stuck-out roots, he did his best to evade what he knew will still come. A lightning bolt struck in front of him causing him to stop abruptly as the rain was upon him.

"I'm screwed."

The birds hovered over him and he closed his eyes as the rain of lightning began to fall. Bright white light covered him as he was enclosed in the fall of lightning. It was so bright that those who looked up at the hill from the town could see the light while those close to it could feel the earth rumble from the strikes that hit the ground repeatedly.

"I don't think it's a good idea to go there for now." A certain curly-haired chubby lad spoke staring intently at the top of the hill. With him were two other boys who only wanted a rematch.

"So you weren't telling a lie. They do go through gruesome training." The tallest one among the trio spoke as he pushed back his already laid-back, shiny black hair.

"We just have to come back tomorrow. Honestly, I don't think we would be able to get to that house in one piece." The blonde-haired one said with a sigh of disappointment.

Lecter, Jarett, and Chandrel stood around for a while before turning back. As they walked back to the city, all threw boys had one thought in the back of their minds; 'Are the twins okay?'

Agnar, for the first time throughout the battle, out of concern sat up abruptly from his seat and gazed intently at the event that was taking place in front of him. "Raten?" He called out softly.

"I did ask you if you were sure three-on-one would be a good idea," Raymond said in a bid to remind Agnar it was his fault his son is probably dead.

Agnar shook his head and smiled. "I was worked up over nothing." He uttered a soliloquy and returned to his seat.

The lightning fall had stopped and the birds slowly descended from the skies and landed on the ground shaking the remaining feathers they had left. They looked even more horrible now with scorch marks on their skin.

Looking at a certain place, there was still white light illuminating a being circularly. The light then, in an instant, spread from his body and around the forest blinding other beasts around who chose to ignore the lightning battle that was going on.

As the light dimmed, the body of a young boy mostly unscathed was seen still standing. His eyes were rolled back leaving all-white. He fell with a thud to the ground and lay unmoving.
