Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

The fact that she would be showing up late was not exactly going to bode well for her and she knew it. He didn't need an excuse to make her regret coming to his class and showing up to his class late was he simply asking for it?

She was nearly an hour and thirty minutes late for a class that was supposed to run for two hours. She did not intend on missing any classes no matter what it was that she was expected to meet. Getting out of the traffic that she had been in was nearly impossible but she made it.

The sun blared hot like it was no man's business, making the unseated parts of her car hot enough to cook a burrito. She was not exactly spared from the effect either but she did not care about the sun right now. She only cared about getting to her class. She drove as fast as she could until she could finally see the University's gates in front of her. She pulled her small sedan into the parking lot. She did not know if the class would still be held but she had to hurry, she told herself as she dashed out of the car, racing with her handbag in hand as she made for the lecture theater. It was a huge building where she took all of her lectures and it was barely not noticeable and she was grateful for that. Especially how lost and unaware she had felt on the first day that she had visited this campus.

She had felt so lost and torn that she did not know what else to do but just make headway. She eventually found the lecture theater where she sat in on some lectures.

She was far more advanced in her studies than she looked, what with being home-schooled by witches almost all her life. Witches who had access to a century's worth of knowledge. She had not meant to do it but she could not exactly help herself. I mean this was common knowledge, she told herself.

She had corrected professor Gallagher on her first day. He was mistaking the function of the left atrium for the right and she not in any rude manner stated the difference of which she had turned out to be right with. She did not know why he had felt offended. Where she came from, they would welcome someone who was keen on knowledge like she was but she later found out that the lecturers were not the sort that she was used to.

She had found that out and not in a good way. Maybe that was one of why he had hated her from the start. It did not matter to her, she had told herself. She was going to get through her education here and she was going to do it in style.

She did not want to draw attention to herself so she figured that she might as well.

'Obsecro Vos ut silere' she whispered, glaring at the theater door as she pushed it open.

She silently opened the door of the lecture theatre, trying not to make as much noise as she felt would instantly call attention to herself but who was she kidding? Even if she was as stealthy as a cat, she would still stand out. And just like that, the whole class turned around to stare at her.

Her spell had worked but she had only enchanted the other half of the door that she was going to open. It was a little spell that she had learned during her teenage years. It was a spell to make anything silent. She had snuck in and out of the house with that one more time than she could count.

Selene turned to her side as she noticed someone pushed past her, opening the other part of the door, and making a loud noise that caused the whole class to turn towards the door.

She would have sooner preferred that the ground swallow her than for the focus of the entire class to become shifted on her. She gave a nervous smile as she watched the professor lazily let his gaze browse towards her direction, then back to what he had been doing in the first place.

What? She said almost out loud.

Was this a midlife crisis or he was going through another batch of puberty? Had he lost all interest in tormenting her all of a sudden? Somehow, she had come to expect something like that but now that she did not have it, it felt a little disappointing. Well, more than a little, she said inwardly.

When he would single her out to bully, she would usually assume that at least he cared enough to do that but now, she just felt invisible. She scoffed at herself as she realized that she was not making up her mind. A couple of seconds ago, she had felt like she did not want to be the center of attention, and sure, she still felt that way but she would at the very least like to be considered important enough to be in this class.

His glossing over her like she meant nothing just made her feel like she was not.

"If you would turn to the last pages of your textbook, you will find the text that you will be reviewing over the next two weeks." He said in a heavy voice that echoed through the whole room.

She managed to find a seat as she took out her notebook to pick up from wherever she could.

"Please make sure to go over today's lesson as I would not be taking them again. If you have any questions, I would suggest you see your colleagues because while Jesus might be coming again, I shall not." He said in his haughty tone that she had become so used to. "Have a great weekend class." He told them as he turned around to head back to the seat where he had dropped his bag.

Wait that was it? She asked herself as she watched everyone else around her start to pack up their things.

She had not gained anything today, she told herself as she sat there in between the chaos of her course mates trying to pack up their things and head to their next classes.

She could not let this go. She had no idea what they had learned today and she did not exactly have any friends in her department.
