Zhang Wei stood there, feeling confused and betrayed as he stared at his best friend and girlfriend. It was as if his world had come crashing down, and he was struggling to make sense of the situation.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Zhang, we didn't realize you were here. This is a closed meeting," said the man in the suit, eyeing Zhang Wei with suspicion.
Zhang Wei felt his stomach drop. Closed meeting? What was going on? He looked at Chen Jie, searching for some explanation, but his friend avoided his gaze.
"Excuse me," Zhang Wei said, his voice shaking. "I think I need some air."
He turned and walked out of the room, his mind racing with a million thoughts. How could Chen Jie do this to him? And how could Zhou Yun betray him like this?
As he walked down the hallway, he heard footsteps behind him. He turned around to see Chen Jie and Zhou Yun approaching him.
"Zhang Wei, wait," Chen Jie said, his voice tinged with false concern.
"Chen Jie, what's going on? What's DeepBrain? And why are you here with my girlfriend?" Zhang Wei demanded, his voice shaking with anger and confusion.
Chen Jie smirked. "Oh, didn't she tell you? She's been working with me on this project for the past few months. And as for what we're talking about, it's a new contract that we just secured with the military. You know, the one that you've been working on for the past year? It's ours now."
Zhang Wei's mind was reeling. His best friend had stolen his company's contract and technology, all while using his own girlfriend to get close to him and gather information.
He felt a surge of anger and betrayal, but also a sense of deep sadness. He had trusted Chen Jie with everything, and now it was all gone.
"I trusted you, Chen Jie. I trusted both of you," Zhang Wei said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Chen Jie looked away, unable to meet his gaze. "I'm sorry, Zhang Wei. But in business, it's every man for himself."
Zhang Wei felt a sense of bitter irony at those words. This was his best friend, someone he had thought of as a brother, and now he was being betrayed by him.
Zhang Wei's heart sank. "That contract was with OpenIntelligence, not some DeepBrain. How could you steal it from me?"
Chen Jie shrugged. "Easy. I built a separate company and made the contract under that company. And as for the AI technology, well, let's just say that your girlfriend here was more than willing to leak some of your secrets to me."
Zhou Yun looked down at her feet, shame written all over her face. "I'm sorry, Zhang Wei. I didn't mean for things to turn out this way, but you were going to lose the contract because of your stupid concerns."
Zhang Wei felt like the world was collapsing around him. His best friend and his girlfriend had betrayed him, stolen his contract, and destroyed everything he had worked so hard to build. He stumbled backwards, feeling like he was going to be sick.
Chen Jie stepped forward, a smug look on his face. "Don't worry, Zhang Wei. I'll make sure that your little company gets what it deserves. I'll even make sure to let everyone know that you're nothing but a fraud, infringing on my patents."
As he stood there, watching as Chen Jie and Zhou Yun left the room with the suited man, Zhang Wei felt a deep sense of loss. His company, his dreams, his future, all gone in an instant. And all because of the greed and treachery of those he had trusted the most.
After the incident at the government agency, Zhang Wei's world came crashing down around him. He found out that his best friend and his girlfriend had betrayed him and stolen everything he had worked so hard to build. The contract he thought he had secured for his company, OpenIntelligence, was awarded to DeepBrain, the company that Chen Jie secretly built behind his back.
The betrayal didn't stop there. Chen Jie had also stolen the AI technology that Zhang Wei had spent years developing and filed patents under his name. Zhang Wei was left with nothing but the clothes on his back and the memories of what could have been. Even worse, he found out that his girlfriend, Zhou Yun, had been feeding Chen Jie all the intimate details of his life that he had only shared with her in confidence.
Zhang Wei was devastated, and the pain of the betrayal was so intense that he fell into a deep depression. He lost his scholarship and was kicked out of the university, unable to pay the tuition fees. He had no money, no friends, and no family to turn to for help. He was alone and desperate, living in a tiny rundown apartment in a sketchy part of Beijing.
As Zhang Wei's life spiraled downward, he became more desperate to find a solution. He tried to reach out to his parents for help, but he couldn't get a hold of them. He tried visiting their home, but it was locked and deserted. He asked around the neighborhood, but no one had seen or heard from them.
Zhang Wei's anxiety turned into panic. He went to the police to report their disappearance, but they were dismissive, citing that his parents were likely just on vacation or visiting relatives. He knew that wasn't the case, but he had no evidence to prove otherwise.
Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months. Zhang Wei searched tirelessly for any clue about his parents' whereabouts, but he came up empty-handed. The stress and uncertainty took a toll on his mental health, and he started neglecting his work and his relationships. By the time the police started an investigation, it all seemed too late... They were gone.
Eventually, Zhang Wei had to accept the harsh reality that his parents were gone, and he may never know what happened to them. The thought of losing his family on top of everything else he had lost was too much to bear. He fell into a deep depression, feeling cold and alone in the world.
For months, Zhang Wei lay in his bed, consumed by thoughts of revenge against Chen Jie and Zhou Yun. He couldn't sleep, couldn't eat, and couldn't think of anything else but his own misery. His once bright future was now gone, and he had nothing left to live for.
Three months had passed since that fateful day at the government agency, and Zhang Wei was still lying in his bed, cold, poor, and depressed. He had given up on life, lost all hope for the future, and had no energy left to fight back. However, deep inside him, there was still a burning desire for revenge. It was then that Li Nan knocked on his door.
"Don't worry about me, I will be fine!" said Zhang Weir nonchalantly. Li Nan looking back at him with wet eyes.
"I promise nothing will happen to me, I just need some more time"
"... Okay" she said between tears. "But you promised, so you must keep your promise"
"You know I would never break a promise! have I ever since we were children ever done so?" he said.
"hm.. ha.. no..." she said chuckling and wiping off her tears.
"Alright, now go take a shower and go back home, I don't want your parent so worry"
"Okay..." she said, and quickly got into the shower. A few minutes later she opened the door and left hesitantly. Looking back at him a couple of times before disappearing in a corner.
"Sigh..." Zhang Wei went back into his room and lied down, he quickly closed his eyes and slowly felt into a slumber.
Zhang Wei felt a sense of unease as he opened his eyes, still groggy from his sleep. The surroundings were unfamiliar, and he couldn't recall how he got there. His heart raced as he took in his surroundings - he appeared to be in a misty, surreal landscape. It seemed to be sunrise, and there was a huge mountain on the far distance, with a glow brighter than the sun at the top. He looked around and saw a woman standing a few feet away, regarding him curiously.
He was taken aback by this woman's looks. She had beautifuly golden hair that flowed like waves down her spine. Her eyes were blue, and her skin was fairly maintained. Her body was surreal as a single look could make any man drool. He could have stayed like this for an eternity admiring the sights in front of him, were it not for the hypnotizing voice that called to him a moments later.
"Who are you?" she asked, her expression one of mild surprise.
"I'm Zhang Wei," he replied, trying to keep the confusion out of his voice. "Where am I?"
The woman regarded him thoughtfully, then replied, "Interesting. You're a really interesting fellow, Zhang Wei."
He didn't know how to respond to that, but before he could ask any more questions, she spoke again.
"You're in my dream," she said, gesturing to the misty landscape around them. "And it seems you're a dreamwalker."
"A dreamwalker?" Zhang Wei repeated, feeling more and more confused.
The woman nodded. "Yes. Sadly, I cannot stay to accompany you any longer, but as it seems that fate has bonded us, I have something for you."
She held out her hand, and in it appeared a small, glowing orb. Zhang Wei felt a jolt of surprise as she placed it in his hand, but before he could ask what it was, the woman vanished, leaving him standing alone in the mist.
Suddenly, Zhang Wei woke up with a startled racing heart. As he sat up, he saw a notification on his mind - *DING* "Congratulations, you have obtained the Dreamwalker System."
He couldn't make sense of what had just happened, but he had a feeling that it was only the beginning of something strange and mysterious.
