"Darkside is"—Steppenwolf
Third POV
Darkside's feet dug into the ground, imprinting his soles in the desolate city. The swarms of para-demons all ground to a halt. No longer were they layers upon layers; rather, their chaotic cacophony halted, no single soul daring to make a noise, all bound to obedience, bound to the will of Darkside. They all had their gaze lowered to their feet in submission.
Kaliback scrambled his way to his knees, his head lowered, his eyes fixed on the boots of his father, not daring to look up, for his failure to meet the deadline expected of him had brought his father here, and he knew exactly what that meant; he knew Granny Goodness would await him back home.
"Father, forgive me; I faced some unexpected setbacks, but I can handle—" His frantic pleading was cut off as he was thrown across the city, hammered into the rubble from the omega beams, his father's eyes still glowing like magma.
"Oi, who in the seven hells do you think you are, ignoring me, you arrogant bastard?" Rose's defiant voice echoed through the silent world, her arms crossed as she floated above Darkside, looking down at him with revulsion.
"Be quiet, insolent woman." A gruff voice spoke the words, passing the dry lips of the lord of Apokolipse; his utter disinterest was palpable. "Kneel, and you shall be allotted a place within my ranks as a fury in my service."
He said his form growing to tower over Rose, even whilst floating, she had to look up to meet his gaze, his eyes burning her at her soul as they stared through her.
She paused for a second and swallowed her spit as she regained her self-control, the air of arrogance growing thicker around her as she prepared to do something that had not been done since the fall of the Saiyan Empire. "Not going to happen, dickhole, but if you kneel, I'll only hurt you a little, being magnanimous and all," she barked as she moved closer to Darkside; the temperature in the air grew hotter till it boiled over.
*Kakwhoom*
The air split as Rose charged at Darkside, breaking the sound barrier, her arms starting to get covered in a pink hue as she charged her fire, feeding the attack more and more till she came face to face with Darkside. She threw her arm back, fully cocking it, and brought it forward, aiming to strike Darkside right in the face, a trail of pink flames following her fist, condensing and heating up with each passing moment; the moisture in the air had completely evaporated. She unloaded it all as she struck the lord of apocalypse in the face: "FLASH FIRE FIRST!" A beam of plasma followed the impact of her strike as she tried to turn the lord of apocalypse into an ill-made Sunday dinner.
The fire caused a smoke screen blocking her line of sight, not that it mattered, as even if she had seen it, she would be unlikely to be able to react to it. Two crimson beams shot through the smoke, aiming to strike Rose in the heart. She managed to cross her arms in front of her chest to block them, her armour melting into her flesh as the impact of the hit sent her rocketing backwards. Before she even had the time to collect and rebalance herself midair, her ankle folded under immense pressure as a grey, stony fist clasped onto it, squeezing it with such force that her bones splintered and cracked, her muscles turning to mush, her ligaments tearing as her skin blew off her leg. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!" The punishment drew an agonised scream from her lungs.
"Oh, do carry on singing your agony; it soothes my soul," Darkside said with sadistic glee as he held her firmly within his grip, unscathed from Rose's attack, not even a speck of dust on his regal attire.
"Let us dance; you will have the honour to be my partner, young lady." Darksid's right hand reached around Rose to grab her right arm; he released her mangled thigh, forcefully pulling her close to his chest and twisting her body so she was forced to face him. His left hand locking fingers with Rose's, his right hand following suit as he grabbed her via a telekinetic hold, locking her into place, he began to move her much like a puppet master pulling at his toy's strings.
The tyrant began to waltz with the champion of the Palexians, his left hand adjusting to resting on her back as he mentally forced her to rest her left arm on his shoulder. "I had almost forgotten how exhilarating it can be to participate in my own conquest; destroying Sadala has rekindled my passion for subjecting the will of mortals." Darkside gazed listlessly into the sky, yet he wasn't staring at the sky; rather, he was staring past it, past the blanket of para-demons, past the asteroid rings, past the countless destroyed warships, to a planet that once was.
His chain of thoughts broke as an indignant voice screamed, "GET YOUR HANDS OFF ME, YOU SICK BASTARD!" Rose spat defiantly at the face of the lord of Apokolips, only to meet his barrier. He stared at her with disappointment.
"Manners are what set us apart from the animal's manners and order. You seem to have not been taught proper manners, but that is to be expected of someone of your race." He broke the hold, pushing Rose away yet keeping her caged and bound telekinetically. "I shall give you the honour of learning from me directly not only how you should act but also your place in the natural order of the universe. It seems being the strongest ant has given you a warped perspective, like many before you."
*Creek*
Rose was forced to bow, her bones bending under the mental command of Darkside, all her defiant will amounting to nothing, no matter how much she tried to resist; her resistance crumbled. "You bow to your superiors 45 degrees usually, but for me, the lower the better."
Rose's eyes burnt with hate, yet all she could do was follow his will. She tried to heat up her body temperature to increase blood flow to give her a temporary power boost, yet it did nothing but exhaust her. She had little to no recourse; her strength that she had always been so proud of meant nothing, and that wounded her deeply. From the moment she had Sayian DNA spliced into her after her birth, she was the strongest on her planet, born with the rarest element, gifted with fire. She had never struggled, never lost a fight, yet here and now nothing mattered. This monster toyed with her as if she were a child.
"LET ME GO, YOU SON OF A WHORE." Rose wailed, and she found herself being forced into an upright position. The Darkside seemed to have gotten bored of her no longer finding any amusement in tormenting her; suddenly all the skin on Rose's jaw peeled away as blood gushed down her neck, staining her battered armour. The muscles were ripped and torn away from the bone, which was dislocated and torn from her face and landed in Darkside's palm.
"I thought I'd take a souvenir of our time together now that it's coming to an end as you grow less interesting." Rose was then forced into the ground, crushing her, a large crater forming. Darkside landed beside her and was hit with consecutive bolts of lightning, all of which met his barrier, which blocked the attacks. "Oh, do we have a hero amongst us? Wait, no, heroes aren't suicidal." Darkside remarked in a snide tone as he shifted to look at Adonas as he looked down on the kneeling hero.
That distraction was all Rose needed to pursue her final gambit, her ultimate move, the kamikaze attack. Her body's core temperature kept increasing to a higher and higher degree till she started to glow pink, but she further condensed it to a level she'd never done before, condensing and heating up further and further till she started to burn herself, and she moved all that power into her right arm, which was pinned but pinned facing towards Darkside. She released all the energy as torrents of fire marched towards Darkside's back, the lord of Apokolips, seemingly unaware.
The attack burnt all in its way. The air itself burnt as oxygen levels on the planet started to decrease drastically. Roses hand turned to ash and floated into the wind; dozens of Para demons fell from the sky like shooting stars.
Yet the lord of Apokolips didn't even turn to look back; the wave of fire suddenly halted and condensed into a ball, which moved around, landing in Darkseid's right palm. He opened his mouth and ingested the attack, swallowing with a large *gulp*, "Spicy."
Roses's face twisted into a horrified and broken look, her eyes dulling as she saw her best effort be waved away. Was this what it was like to be normal? Was this the feeling all those fighters had felt when they faced her? Was she even significant in any form? All these questions raced in her mind.
"Let us see how about a mercy." Darkside plucked out a coin from his pocket and placed it an equal distance from Adonas and Rose. "Whoever picks up this coin gets to die; the other gets to live. If neither of you picks it up, you both..."
Adonas stared at the coin, his mind racing, his instincts telling him to not pick up the coin, to live, to run, to survive, but he was Adonas, the champion, the hero of this world, and no matter Roeses's genetic makeup, she was a Palexian; she was his people; she was under his protection. What kind of hero would he be to allow her to die and choose to live? He was no coward; he had made peace with death many times. If his race lived through Rose, if it could be avenged through Rose, which was the best possibility given her potential, he would die so his race could live.
He crawled towards the coin. Rose made no effort to move or even look up; she seemed to have given up her insurmountable pride.
Finally, it seemed shattered, but this meant nothing; she'd get up again. If she lived, if she'd died, well, it wouldn't matter anyway. He'd reached his potential; she hadn't even begun to realise the surface of hers, so he crawled through the dirt and blood of his people that stained the ground and picked up the coin and prepared to meet his maker.
"Admirable, so noble to sacrifice your own life; exactly what I expected." Darkside waved his hand as hordes of Para demons rushed towards Rose; he saw a severed leg fly from the pile.
"WHAT? NO! YOU SAID SHE'D LIVE. STOP THEM!" Adonas cried, his eyes burning as he looked toward Darkside.
"She will, but I said nothing about her quality of life, as you won't live to see dying is a mercy on the apocalypse, so in your attempt to gift her life, all you've given her is a destiny under a scalpel," Darkside said in a cold voice as he waved the Parademons dispersed; one carried the maimed Rose through a boom tube.
"You cruel cunt," Adonas growled as his fist clenched so hard it started to bleed as his nails dug into his skin. He got no response other than a boom tube closing; the planet started to break apart around him. magma pooling to the surface, the hell spores doing their jobs as Palexia, once the bastion of knowledge in the Sayian empire, turned to space dust.
