Chereads / Reincarnated as a Rabbit / Chapter 4 - Finding a New Home

Chapter 4 - Finding a New Home

Squeak Squeak!

I suddenly found myself surrounded by 2 groundhogs towering over me with a giant boulder behind my back just a few hours after leaving my old home. Well, how did it come to this?

Well, I will tell you it really is their fault and not mine. I was just eating some berries from a bush when some annoying groundhog came bothering me. I think he was saying that the berries are his but whom is he trying to scam, I know for sure that he didn't plant the bush!

[Groundhog]

[A common groundhog living in the forest of the Forgotten Sanctum]

[HP 20/20]

Squeak Squeak!

It looks like this bastard won't stop annoying me with his shrill voice. It also looks like he is alone, sucks to be him.

[Groundhog]

[HP 13/20]

I kicked the groundhog in the face, I felt his skull cracking because of the force of my kick.

He tackled me and I dodged to my right. Then used [Skill] Bounce then stomped on his back.

[Groundhog]

[HP 7/20]

I finished him off by using [Skill] Bite, on his neck.

The groundhog fell down, lifeless on the ground.

Whistle

I suddenly heard some whistling from my back. Did you know that groundhogs can whistle? Well, I only found it out right now!

When I looked toward my back I saw a groundhog whistling, I can see the agitation within his eyes as he looks at the corpse of the groundhog beneath my feet.

[Greater Groundhog]

[A Greater Groundhog living in the forest of the Forgotten Sanctum]

[HP 35/35]

A family member huh, maybe his sibling or parent? I don't know, but this one looks like a big boi or this might be the mother so big momma. If I were to describe how big he is, I would compare it to a border collie.

When he stopped whistling, I saw 2 ordinary groundhogs coming towards the big one. The big momma squeaked, and the trio rushed toward me.

I used [Skill] Bounce to gain distance, it seems I am a bit faster than them. I guess this is a perfect time for me to train myself and gain some exp.

I rushed into the bush to lose their vision of me. The big groundhog bulldozed her way into the shrub, I was waiting beside a tree trunk beside the bush.

When I saw the big momma, I used [Skill] Kick into the ground then used [Skill] Headbutt onto the side of the big groundhog.

[Greater Groundhog]

[HP 27/35]

My headbutt even with my horn only death 7 damage? This momma is really beefy.

The big groundhog stopped in its tracks when I headbutted her then I landed on the ground. But to my surprise, I didn't see the groundhog rushing towards me for a tackle.

[Horned Rabbit]

[HP 21/27]

I flew into the air towards a tree trunk, but I was able to position my feet towards the tree trunk. I used [Skill] Bounce when my hind legs touched the trunk to propel myself forward.

The big groundhog got back into the game and rushed toward me in a biting motion. When I was already near her mouth I used [Skill] Kick onto her snout.

[Greater Groundhog]

[HP 22/35]

I used the force I gained from that kick to propel myself upwards toward the bottom of a thick tree branch. With the impact when I hit the branch I [Skill] Kick towards the branch and rushed to the small groundhog closest to me, the newcomer to the fight.

Due to the fast turn of events the newcomer coming from the bush is unaware of what was happening.

When I was near the newcomer I used [Skill] Headbutt and my horn pierced through one of its hind legs.

[Groundhog]

[HP 10/22]

Squeak!

The newcomer squeaked in pain and because of my own attack, I crashed myself into the ground and got tackled by the momma groundhog.

[No Name]

[Horned Rabbit]

[HP 16/27]

I noticed that my hit points are running out fast, I really do have a reckless way of fighting. Just jumped around to gain momentum and threw my body to them.

Am I really dumb or what?

The healthy groundhog then rushes towards me for a bite. But luckily, I was able to get back on my feet and used [Skill] Bounce to run away.

No, I am not running away! I am just finding someplace where I can gain a vantage point. It's hard to fight 1 versus 3 you know?!

The three groundhogs quickly followed suit. The momma groundhog enraged, bulldozed her way into my path, she was like a gigantic berserker.

The healthy groundhog still as energetic as before was able to catch up in no time, but the one that I pierced with my horn limped on the ground and slowly lost blood.

I think even if I didn't bother with him, he will die sooner or later due to blood loss and also some predator might just smell his blood and eat him up, well rest in peace to you.

As I was hopping away from the groundhogs, I saw in front of me a huge boulder towering over my presence, and behind me are two crazed groundhogs one big and one small trying to kill me.

As I saw a few trees new the boulder I quickly cooked up a plan to end them. I continued hopping towards the giant boulder and when I saw the two groundhogs already near me, and me already close to the boulder, I jumped towards it.

I quickly positioned my hind legs so it will touch the boulder then used [Skill] Kick, to propel myself towards the greater groundhog and readied my [Skill] Bounce.

Seeing that I performed the same tricks as before, the two groundhogs swayed slightly to opposite sides but I expected that they won't fall for the same tricks twice. When I got close to the ground, I positioned my legs toward the dirt and used [Skill] Bounce, propelling myself toward the back of the healthy groundhog.

The healthy ground hog surprised by what I did, turned towards me but that was the biggest mistake he could make because his neck is now in my trajectory. I used [Skill] Headbutt then I felt my face wet from blood. I pierced through the neck of the healthy groundhog.

[Groundhog]

[Leveled Up 1 > 2]

[Leveled Up [Skill] Headbutt 1 > 2]

With all the momentum that I built up from the constant running and bouncing, my horn killed the groundhog in a swift manner.

Seeing that I killed another groundhog the big momma became even more enraged and rushed toward me.

But since I've recovered due to level up, my nearly exhausted HP and Mana replenished I became more confident in my victory.

When the big groundhog was near me, I used [Skill] Bounce to jump toward the tree branch above me and used [Skill] Bounce again to gain more momentum when I hit the tree branch.

Seeing that she missed me, she looked upwards just to see me already right above her back.

I used [Skill] Kick to kick her back and I felt the breaking of bones.

[Greater Groundhog]

[HP 10/35]

Even with her bloodied body and broken bones, she still struggles to get back up and even with her exhaustion slowly eating her up. She looked at me in rage. I think I know what she is feeling. She is just a mother avenging her child.

But still, this is a dog-eat-dog world and to survive I need to get exp in which I get from killing others.

She put up a last-ditch effort and rush towards me like a giant bulldozer, but as we all might know bulldozers are goddamn slow. I easily dodged her final attack and finish her off with two usages of [Skill] Bite on her neck.

[Leveled Up 2 > 3]

[Leveled Up [Skill] Bite 2 > 3]

[Leveled Up [Skill] Kick 3 > 4]

The greater groundhog's lifeless body fell to the ground.

I am already mentally exhausted from all the mana that I've spent in the fight, although the quantity recovers, the exhaustion is not removed and more usage of mana at that point is just adding to the mental burden that I have.

With all the blood and gore on the ground, I think some other monsters already smelled it. I better get out of this place fast, lest I get the attention of some bigger dog.

For the one left in the bushes, I think he already died to someone else. I won't go near that place for a while, it's a pity because the berries from that shrub are delicious, I forgot to appraise it but it looked like blueberries.

I quickly left the place, I hopped towards the northeast direction so I can hopefully encounter the river again, I need to clean myself and drink some water, I'm quite thirsty.

Squawk!

While I was hopping toward the northeast direction I saw vultures in the sky, I think they are flying toward the direction of the groundhogs that I killed.

Well, they should thank me for giving them food. But the strange thing is that the Vulture is so damn fast! I was able to see some gusts forming under the Vulture's wings. Is that a skill?

[107/120]

I suddenly felt a shiver in my spine like I caught a predator's eye, but the feeling quickly left me.

Damn, that guy is quite scary, I heard that some birds just catch their prey with their claws, swooping their prey unnoticed, some not even noticing that they are already at the claws of a predator. I'm glad that I wasn't the target of that guy, for now, maybe. I hope we don't cross paths again.

I was finally able to get to the river after 2 or 3 hours, to go unnoticed I cleaned my fur on some small pond that I found and stopped a bit for a meal.

The grass near the river pond tasted great, but although it tastes great, I still want to go to the riverside. I felt like I got attached to that place.

Whilst traveling towards the river I came across some Slimes. They are actually quite cute with their body just being one big blob. I am not sure if they have consciousness or not.

[Slime]

[A Slime that lives in the forest of the Forgotten Sanctum]

[20/20]

When I tapped a Slime with my paw, my paw just go boing boing on its body, the slime didn't even mind my presence.

Well did you know that Slimes eat grass just like rabbits do? This gentleman understands the sophisticated taste of organic wild grass. A true connoisseur of fine dining, am I right Mr. Slime?

After playing around with the slimes for a bit I got back on my way toward the river.

I thought for a while that I will never be able to encounter some rabbits like me but thankfully near the river bank, I found many rabbits!

You can even call it a village of sorts, but really just a gathering of rabbits, I saw some Alpha Rabbits among those, so it seems that they are some sort of leaders among the species huh?

[Alpha Rabbit]

[An Alpha Rabbit that lives in the forest of the Forgotten Sanctum]

[HP 50/50]

But I just observed them from afar and hopped on my way toward the river. But I believe that some of them noticed me but just observed back, waiting for what action I'll take. After getting to the river I quickly made a burrow under a tree and made myself comfortable, I am still quite exhausted although while I was on my way towards here I made a few stops but really, I just felt at home near the riverbanks.

How about the rabbits nearby you asked? Well, I don't think that they will be going anywhere soon. They live there to the point that there's a sizable population of them. I'll hop towards the village when I get well-rested enough.

I think the rabbits in this world have attachment issues on riverbanks, I wonder why. Look, I was born near one and the rabbits here live near one. The mystery is just piling up, woah.

Let's see the ones that I've encountered are Goblins, Kobolds, Snakes, Slimes, Ferrets, Rabbits, and Groundhogs, then that one Vulture from before.

Well, that is enough for today, this rabbit needs to get his nap from all the fighting today. I think this might be my new home, hopefully.

I quickly found a comfortable spot and then slept peacefully, hopping toward dreamland.
