Mark: I'm Maverick Williams
Millions of thoughts ran through Jessica's mind but she tried to maintain a straight face.
Jessica: That's an uncommon name.
Mark: Would you mind if I take you to my place?
Jessica: That'll be great if I visit your place! Moreover, I live alone. I hope aunt and uncle won't mind it.
Mark: Nope!
Jessica noticed Mark close his fist.
Jessica: But, what about work?
Mark: Don't worry about that.
They talked for almost half an hour.
Jessica: It's already nine.
Mark: Woah! Time flies like a rocket. I could talk to you forever.
They stepped out of the shop.
Jessica: Well, I'm your girlfriend. So, we can speak forever.
Mark: So... You truly love me?
Jessica: Yes dummy!
Jessica smiled and kissed him on the cheek.
Mark was shocked.
Jessica: You thought only men can make the first move. Come on, I can't wait to meet your parents.
They got into Mark's car.
Jessica: Your car looks expensive.
Mark: Yeah. It's the latest BMW model.
Jessica: That means, you're quite rich.
Mark: Yeah I am
Jessica: Then why do work in the restaurant? And Mia?
Mark: Mia and I are siblings. But our father abandoned my mother when she was pregnant with me. Mia was only a year old. Mom fell in love with our stepfather and they married. But he hates us. And now mom's sick. So, we have to look after her and work. Our f**king stepfather left us.
Jessica: What the hell!
Mark: He just married mom for money. Gold digger!
Jessica: Don't worry.
Jessica placed her hand on Mark's hand.
Jessica: I'll take care of Mrs. Williams.
Mark: You're different
Jessica: Different?
Mark: Yeah.
Jessica: Why?
Mark: Just felt like that.
Jessica (thinks): Maverick can be the name of any other person. I won't tell Ryan anything right now. I need to get confirmed. And if this person is the Maverick we are looking for, why would he say me his name? He would hide his identity, right? I'd have to play along with him to know the truth. Moreover, I need to change my location. Mark knows where I stay. He may gather more information about me. Mia must've gone through my application form. But why? Do they already know that the agency is targetting them?
Mark: Here.
Jessica looked out of the window. It was a bungalow.
Jessica: Wow!
Maverick got out of his car and opened the door for Jessica. Jessica got out still looking at the bungalow in awe.
Jessica: Where's aunt?
Maverick led her inside.
Mark: She's in hospital
Jessica: But.. Mia said that your father will visit her. And she'll be discharged today.
Mark: Yeah maybe because she didn't want you to know about our dad and all.
The two of them entered the living room. Jessica scanned the living room.
Jessica: Where's Mia?
Mark: She's at the hospital. With mom
Jessica: Ohh!
Mark led her to a room upstairs. The two of them sat on the bed.
Jessica: This is your room?
Mark: Yes! You ask a lot of questions
Jessica looked at Mark with a guilty face.
Jessica: Oh, I'm sorry. I was just curious. I won't ask anything more now.
Jessica looked away.
Mark: I'm sorry. But this is nothing. You don't know who I actually am.
Jessica looked at him with a confused look.
Jessica: You're Maverick Williams, my boyfriend. Mia is your sister. And you told me about your mom, dad, and stepfather.
Mark let out a laugh and looked at Jessica. He leaned closer. He looked at her lips.
Mark: There's a lot more.
Jessica: More?
Mark tugged Jessica's hair behind her ear and cupped her face.
Mark: Promise me you'll never say this to anyone
Jessica: What?
Mark: First promise me
Jessica looked into his eyes. She could see her reflection on his pupil.
Jessica: I promise
Mark: I'm a gangster.
Jessica didn't react. She kept staring at him. Then she smiled.
Jessica: What a lame joke!
Mark: I'm not joking. Haven't you heard of Born Killers?
Jessica: I have. But... You can't be a gangster.
Mark: What made you think so?
Jessica: You don't look like one. Moreover, you're not bad.
Mark left her and faced the door.
Mark: Jane, you're innocent. You don't deserve this world. The world is cruel. And I'm sorry for lying to you.
Jessica: Lie?
Mark: Yes. I've lied to you about my parents
Jessica: But if you're a gangster, why are you telling me this? I can be a danger to you or your gang. Moreover, shouldn't a gangster be hidden? He hardly comes in public.
Mark: Until the mafia boss has to do the job himself.
Jessica: What are you up to? Mark, you're not bad. Please don't do anything.
Mark: Don't worry. Born Killers isn't a bad gang. We do nothing to the common mass. Our enemies are corrupted people.
Jessica: But, that's the agency's job, right?
Mark looked at Jessica angrily. Jessica looked down.
Mark: The agency is nothing but a collection of corrupted people. They're the biggest enemy of every gang in the US.
Jessica: What lie were you talking about?
Mark: We don't have any stepfather. We never had. My father had died when I was five. He was the mafia boss before the rival gang killed him. But, they never knew that they had to meet something more dangerous. Twelve years later, our gang killed the gang leader's wife and the rest of the important gang members. The gang leader escaped and was later found dead. Mom was the UnderBoss at that time. She was the mastermind behind the killing of the enemy. The others became a part of our gang. My mom is going through a lot of medical complications. Now, I'm the would-be Boss. And Mia...
Mark stopped for a few seconds. Jessica hadn't uttered a single word. She was speechless.
Jessica: Mia? She must be holding any important position, right?
Mark: No
Jessica: Then?
Mia is not my sister
