"Don't be like them."
All I could hear were my mother's last words. Back when the angels took her over the clouds so I could never reach her. They knew I couldn't fly so they taunted me, but my mother's voice was strong enough to reach me on the ground.
I was a kid back then, but now I understand. She told me,
"In a world split in two, don't let the concept of light and dark consume you. Don't be like them."
My mind had shut down as demons also dragged my father below the surface, below my very feet. They knew I didn't have the heart to follow so they taunted me.
However, my mother's words still found me, even outside the veil when my mind and flesh reformed. They were loud and clear as I fell on my knees weeping in front of a blazing home, my hair slowly turning silver for the first time with my little sister watching behind me. My mother's voice echoed.
