When she threw open the doors to Lucretia's bedroom, Lucretia, who sat by the window with Reggie standing at her side, spun around with a start. Cleopatra had grown accustomed to seeing them together, speaking in hushed tones, probably scheming or having conversations they wanted no one else to be a part of.
"What is it, child?" Lucretia asked, staring at the pale-faced lady standing at the door.
Cleopatra's feet turned to stone as she dragged her legs across the room to reach Lucretia. "Mother, something bad has happened," her voice broke at the end of the statement as she crumbled to the ground.
Alarmed, Lucretia jumped to her feet. Had something happened to her son? If anything happened to Zarek, she would personally bring down hell upon the unfortunate person. "What happened? Speak!" she yelled impatiently.
"He's dying, Mother," she cried. "Lucien is dying."
"Oh, thank God!" Lucretia sighed in relief.
