Lucien rolled his eyes. The feeling of seething resentment filled Lucien; he could feel his arm tremble from anger, Zarek would say anything to make him mad, but he knew better than to allow Zarek's words to get to him.

Taking a deep breath, he managed to rein in his anger. He returned Zarek's stare with his chin raised in defiance rather than confidence, his face deadpan. "Your flimsy attempt at vexing me, I must say, has been a complete waste of breath. And I can assure you, Zarek, I will recover from this. You can sit on the dragon throne only in your dreams," he replied in a low but forceful voice, careful not to aggravate his pain.

Zarek scoffed. "I like your confidence, Lucien. But confidence does not cure a witch's poisoning," he crossed his hands over his chest, his gait challenging.
