She helped him to the edge of the water. His wound was still bleeding.
She helped him remove his shirt and dipped the handkerchief into the stream to clean the wound.
"Do you have a blade on you?" she asked.
He retrieved a small knife from his boot and passed it to her.
"Heat it up," she said.
He looked at her questioningly. When he saw that she was not going to explain, he slid his finger along the blade, turning the blade red hot.
"This is going to sting," she said, taking the knife from him. He flinched almost as soon as the blade touched his skin. She muttered words of sympathy but continued to apply the burning wound shut. She discarded the knife but maintained her kneeling position, a look of defiance in her eyes.
"What is it?" Lucien asked.
"The lady who stabbed you seemed familiar," she paused and raised her eyes to meet his. "I remember now, she was the same woman who served you the poisoned drink that night."
