/Mystic Falls/998 AD/
A pristine nature reigns supreme around the settlement known as mystic falls. For the eyes of ordinary men, it is a paradise of peace, tranquility and beauty, cascaded with the joyful laughs of children running around, adults looking very serene doing their daily duties to keep the village lively and alive.
At the edge of the village where a cottage is situated, two people can be seen. A woman tall, slim and beautiful in her mid to late 40's. She has long natural blond hair and brown eyes. She had fine facial features, carrying the aura of a mother as she looks towards the other, a young boy, medium height with long dark brown hair and with dark brown eyes, he appears to be between 12 years of age, having a striking resemblance as the woman in front of him if the color of their hair were the same.
"Now you remember what I have told you before, when you mix henbane leaves with a monkshood root, you get...."

(A/n I'm just typing falsehood but take note the leaves and roots as well as the Jotnar are 'mythically' real)
"That is very good Henric, your knowledge on herbs and roots are all coming to be that of a master, soon we will go into the ritual and incantations soon enough. Although you have not awaken your abilities yet, they are still there, I can feel it and I know that one day you will be far more powerful than I am." Henric shows a proud smile, he has always been eager to proof himself some way ever since he saw his older brothers follow their father go out for hunts and heavy labor, even his sister Rebekah was involved with many chores to give her her own responsibility and hearing this from his mother gave him a sense of belonging to make the family strife.
A witch, yes, he knew what they were and many other supernaturals. Ever since he was old enough to speak, hear and understand words, his mother, a powerful witch, had been grooming him. It was never a secret in their family as they all knew what she was, not only her but his brother Finn had an affinity for magic. Their Father, Mikael, was a strong viking hunter who knew about the world of the supernatural. In fact, it was one of his expeditions with his fellow hunters on a hunt for a troll who had been terrorizing their village, but they overestimated their capabilities and it ended with the death of everyone, save him, who was already at Valhalla gate, however, he was rescued by the damsel, Esther, whom he fell in love with and later married and relocated to where they reside in now after a deadly plague affected their former home.
They have been living in this land ever since but soon they realized that the paradise wasn't just a home for humans, supernaturals as well.
Werewolves
Humans cursed to renounce their fleshy skin while becoming a wild beast, a wolf, to roam under the full moon. Once they knew, a truce was made between them and the 'packs' as they called themselves that every full moon as long as they were locked up indoors, they were safe from their hunt, since then they have been living happy.
"When I awaken, I want to be strong enough to protect you, papa and my brothers and sister, mama... but I still wish I can be strong like papa and be a hunter like him...but I can't even swing an axe without Niklaus making fun of me" pouting towards the end, the young boy expresses himself.
"And you will be as strong as I am, when you start eating more and training your muscles with me rather than your mind. Besides Niklaus wasn't any better at your age" a strong voice came around joining the conversation
"Papa!"
Henric sprints towards his father as soon as he heard him, not minding the bloody clothes, heavy stench of sweat mixed with blood, he leaps towards him for a grappling hug.
"Haha that's my little Kriger!!..you look heavier than the last time I saw you, have you been training without your papa?" Mikael jokingly inquires as he tickles his youngest child, both ignorant of their surrounding and the awful smell
"Hahaha..papa knows..haha...that's...haha...not...stop it pa...haha" Henric replies incoherently
"Ok Mikael, that's enough, you smell like a rotten meat and you want to Henric to be smell same"
"Oh but my love, there is room for more and I can see you are interested for a hug and a kiss right" Mikael retorts steadily closing the gap between him and Esther while still holding Henric who, by the way, was still catching his breathe from the laughter.
"No no... Mikael, you better stay back from me... I'll.. ARGGHH!"
After a few moments of little reunion, they finally calm down and noticing just only Mikael, Esther asked "where are Finn and the rest?"
"Oh I left them while we were coming back, Finn and Elijah must gone to the local merchant to sell the hides we got while Niklaus and kol are to be with the blacksmith to help with the maintenance of weapons, they got chipped again...tough beast it was, the boar and it's companion. But Finn and Elijah should be here soon enough..."
"Bloody hel, mama, did papa trouble you again" Finn the eldest asked as he comes into view with Elijah in tow, smiling upon noticing the scene before them.
"Your father is a menace as always, but it is nothing I cannot handle by myself, how was the hunt? And did you see Rebekah while you where in the square?"
"Yes, saw her with the chiefs son, Erik after greeting off Ansel" Esther stiffens a Little before quickly reacting with a nod after Elijah spoke. Mikael noticed the minute change of posture from Esther but brushes it off as a mother's insecurity for a daughter, "oh well, she's coming of age now, nothing wrong with mingling with another...as long as she doesn't forget I'm still the alpha" he says while also mumbling the last statement to himself but enough for Esther and Henric to hear, bringing a stifled laugh from the young lad. After the little relief, Henric decides to change the topic "papa, I just finished my lessons on herbs and plants with mama today, she tells of me becoming a strong witch like her one day" silence ensures at this time as Mikael looks towards his wife, then his sons before saying "leave us"
Sensing the atmosphere no longer permitting for jokes and humor, Elijah comes over towards Henric, taking him by the hand as he tells of the tale of their hunt with Finn following behind not without giving a side glance to the duo still silently staring at each other.
Mikael breaks the silence, confirming they were alone "first it was my first male child you enticed with this ..this enchantments and spells....now Henric...are you trying to turn my first and last into chattering spell casters? Really Esther?"
"The last time I checked, this spell caster saved your life! And still does..beside I'm not forcing anything on them, they are willing to learn! They are gifted Mikael, why stop them?"
"I'm not against this magic, I for one has seen it's use..but why them? Why not Rebekah? Even when Fre.."
"Don't you dare!...sigh...your changing topic Mikael..magic was not the cause of our former dark times, and I am not going to make the same mistake I made the last time!... I'm doing this for my family...our family...I will not always be here.."
"Shh...do not speak of such omen..I was wrong..I apologize for my slip" Mikael pauses as he draws his wife closer into a hug "I'm sorry ..it...it was never you fault..it's just I really want my boys to be warriors like I am...going hunt one day will be the end of me, but knowing I have four hunters protecting you and Rebekah, I would gladly get drunk with the others in Valhalla" " they can still protect us being as I am also, and you shouldn't curse yourself to leave us early" Esther rebukes, resting her head on his chest, with soothing beats of his heart calming her nerves, she solemnly makes a vow that would one day change them
"I promise to make them strong enough to protect themselves..to make us powerful, I promise."
