Chapter 52 - Assassination of Evelyn

In the living room of the house, Evelyn was wearing a short top and shorts, lying on the sofa as usual. She had nothing to do, as she looked at the TV, but her mind was somewhere else.

She was thinking about Devin and Ava.

"I hope those two don't get too hurt in the dungeon," Evelyn thought. If possible, she didn't want Devin and Ava to get a scratch, but she knew that was impossible. So the only hope she had was that they wouldn't get too hurt.

Evelyn sighed as she looked at the ceiling when suddenly she felt all the hairs on her body stand up, a chilling sensation spread through her entire body. She moved away from the sofa as fast as she could.

She rushed towards the walls, stood there, and looked at the sofa. She saw an elderly man standing there with a knife in his hand. The red blood dripping from the knife.

She looked at her shoulder where the knife blade had torn through her shoulder. The adrenaline rush was helping her not to feel any pain, but once the rush ended, the pain she would feel would be unimaginable. Not to mention, she might never be able to use this hand anymore.

However, these worries were worthless, as the elderly man rushed forward and his knife plunged deep into her neck. Blood spurted out like a fountain, but her eyes were cold. She moved her other hand and grabbed the elderly man's face. The elderly man was caught off guard, and before he could react, an explosion happened, blasting off his head alongside Evelyn's arms and half of her body. Evelyn looked at the headless body that fell down. The blood that dripping from the side of her body made river of blood.

"Again? This is the sixth time you've died in the last seven years."

Evelyn heard a small sweet voice and saw a tiny woman with green wings behind her. This small woman was only twenty centimeters in size, wearing nothing. She looked at Evelyn and then at the elderly man.

"You should really do something about this," the small woman said, and all the blood that had flowed outside of Evelyn's body became life-like and flowed back into Evelyn's body.

Evelyn's hand healed, her other hand and half of her body regenerated, and the knife marks on her neck disappeared, as if nothing had happened there. Evelyn sighed.

"It's not like I'm having fun when others come to kill me," Evelyn said.

The spirit waved her hand, vanishing the elderly man.

"Whatever, now you only have four chances. After that, we spirits won't care whether you live or die," the spirit said, and then disappeared.

Evelyn's back was soaked in sweat as she fell down. She was taking deep breaths and touched her neck. "It's scary."

Evelyn didn't know who these people were who kept appearing after her. They started coming after her seven years ago. She changed her place and hid in very remote places, but they found her, even in the middle of the forest they found her, so she just decided to live in the capital where many soldiers and knights stayed. In this place, although the number of assassination attempts decreased, they still came after her. At starting when assassination start coming after her, she decided to send Ava to her father and go somewhere far away, but her husband refused that.

Evelyn got angry, but her husband gave Ava a treasure that would not let Ava die. So she decided to let Ava stay with her. And from what she knew from past assassinations, these assassins never targeted her daughter; their target was only her. So Evelyn didn't send Ava away.

Now, Ava stayed at the academy, which relieved her, after all, as long as Raiden was alive, in this world no one could do anything to Ava, it's also for Devin and Yumi. For the past year, no one had come to assassinate her, so she became careless.

Actually, Evelyn was just reluctant to part with her daughter, so even though it was dangerous, she didn't want her daughter to go away from her. Even when she asked her husband and he refused, she felt relieved. Evelyn smiled bitterly as she thought of a life without her daughter and Devin. She didn't want that, and the only way to end these assassinations was to find out who they were.

However, even her husband hadn't been able to find out, so how could she? She didn't even know what this assassination wanted from her. And there was another group of people who were after a book she obtained.

Yumi heard her teacher's voice again, and she heard that Devin was going to train with the teacher for a week. So, for a week, Yumi had to live alone. She felt a bit sad about it.

In her room, she changed into a clean black one-piece dress. The dress ended at her knees, and underneath, she wore black pants. As she looked at herself, she frowned. She combed her hair and then looked in the mirror, nodding her head in satisfaction.

"I should tell Aunt Evelyn about Dev, and I can't wait to tell Aunt Emily about my progress," Yumi smiled, feeling excited about seeing Aunt Emily's reaction when she would learn about her progress. She rushed out of her dorm and then walked out of the academy. After half an hour, she reached Dev's room, clicked on the intercom, and waited for the door to open.

After some time, she saw Aunt Evelyn open the door with a smile on her face.

"Oh, Yumi, you're back from the dungeon?" Evelyn looked around Yumi. "Where is Dev?"

"Hello, Aunt Evelyn," Yumi greeted and spoke, "He is with the teacher. The teacher said that he is going to train Dev for a week."

"Hm," Evelyn nodded her head, feeling disappointed. She hadn't seen him for a week, and now he was going to come back after a week. She missed him.

"Come inside, Yumi," Evelyn invited Yumi inside. Yumi nodded her head. "Thank you, Aunt Evelyn."

"What about Ava? Is she okay?" Evelyn asked as she walked in.

"I don't know, but she looked okay," Yumi said. Then she looked around. "Where is Aunt Emily?"

"She went outside for a while, she might be coming back in some time," Evelyn said.

"Oh, okay," Yumi nodded her head. She also felt disappointed and missed Emily. Then her gaze went forward and saw a broken sofa.

"Aunt Evelyn, what happened to the sofa?" Yumi asked.

"Nothing, I was cleaning, but I used too much strength and broke it," Evelyn said.

"Hm," Yumi didn't understand how Evelyn could fail to control her strength, but she didn't think much when she heard,

"Okay, I'll make you something good, what do you want to eat?" Evenly said and smiled at Yumi.

Yumi's face showed a dazzling smile hearing about food. She thought for a second and said, "Noodles."

"Okay, wait for a while, and I'll make some of it," Evelyn said and headed into the kitchen.

"Aunt Evelyn, let me help you as well," Yumi also headed into the kitchen.
