Chapter 1 - Unfamiliar zone

"Young lady, you've been doing fantastic at school lately."

I make an uneasy smile in response to what my grandmother said. I did great? What a misleading information she got there.

I just got home from school and decided to come here instead of returning home; I only live alone there, so coming here won't be a problem.

"I'm not being humble or anything, grandma, but I'm not a genius you see," she smiles then ignores what I said and continue in preparing the food.

I sigh and smile. "However, I did my best to get through it though." She nodded in agreement. It's the line she have been always told me when I'm crying from the mound of schoolwork or when I'm down.

I head toward the kitchen, where my grandma is cooking, but I come to a halt when I notice a red heart-shaped box on the table.

This is?

Is this the same chocolate cake I haven't had in years?! It's even have the same box!

When I saw there was a chocolate inside, my eyes twinkled. I know it! My grandmother was now staring at me as I surreptitiously opened the package and spoke.

"That's for doing an excellent job despite the fact that you're not a genius as you say but I know you're talented in other aspects."

"Oh, I didn't think you'd open it till I told you to."

I smiled and dashed over to embrace her because of the joy I felt. "Oh, grandma, you really know what made me happy!"

She's already in her late 50s and will soon reach 60, yet she's as strong as ever. That reminds me of when I ran away after doing something childish and Grandma is after me with her magical and mighty cooking pan on her hands.

'This kind of Rapunzel will the death of me,' this what I was thinking at that moment.

"Then, grandma, I'll enjoy this and leave no crumbs!"

I was going to share this with my grandmother, but chocolate is not her thing, and grandpa has already eaten his share and is now in the garden.

Then it's all mine!!

I dashed to up the stairs.

"You should always be cautious and keep your guard up," my grandmother whispered as she turned to her back from me.

I nodded. "Yes, I will-"

"!!!"

"As I said, don't let your guard down; be safe, and never interfere in other people's business that you can't be involved in,"

I felt my heart drop and my soul left my body  because of the shock. As I step on the first step of the stairwell, it cracks open.

"Once you get involved, there's no turning back."

What happened next once again made me feel like my soul was about to depart from my body.

The next thing that appears on my foot is a colorful hole that caused me to fall down in front of the stairs, but instead of falling on the stairs, a new portal opens.

I embrace the heart-shaped chocolate cake tightly.

Grandma, I think we should repair the stairs...
