"Are you sure, Nate?" Maya asked. "What if you found out that I've been lying to you this entire time?"
Nate simply shrugged in response, seemingly unbothered by the fact that Maya could be keeping grave secrets from him.
"I don't think there is anything you could say that would catch me off guard," Nate said, grinning at Maya. "Don't forget, love, I'm a De La Rue, you can't hide from me."
"Even your connections can only go so far," Maya looked away as she tried to pull away, but Nate held her hand tightly. He clearly wasn't going to let her go.
"I'm certain that you would have your reasons," Nate said as he noticed her hesitation.
"I never got close to loving anyone the same way I loved you," Maya admitted. "I tried, you know, to move on."
Nate nodded, Maya was worried by his silence. She didn't know what was running through his mind.
He was as much a mystery to her as ever, like a puzzle that needed to be solved.
