To everyone's surprise, the man at the head of the table laughed.
Nathaniel grinned, satisfied by the results.
"He is right, we aren't the most promising," the man said as he leaned forward and looked eagerly at Nathaniel. "We are, however, the most powerful in this branch of DLR Enterprises."
"If you are the most powerful, why look to someone as lowly ranked as me?" Nathaniel asked, tilting his head to the side. "Surely there are higher ranked people, like Oliver Wright."
He intentionally mentioned Oliver, spitting out his name in disgust just as a disgruntled lover would.
Nathaniel had to show them that he was easily affected by his relationship with Maya and the fact that Maya seemed to prefer Oliver to him.
They needed to know that he could be manipulated by using his desire to be worthy of Maya in her family's eyes.
