When Sarah didn't retaliate and hung her head low, Maya knew something was off.
Something had changed it seemed.
"Maya, did she bother you?" Nathaniel asked, his voice cold and angry as he held her tightly.
"Wait," Maya said as she observed Sarah. "Something's different."
Sarah slowly nodded, confirming that something had happened to her.
"Do you mind if Sarah and I talk?" Maya looked up at Nathaniel in the hopes that he wouldn't get extra protective and ban her from being alone with Sarah.
Maya knew that look, it was a defeated look as if Sarah had given up every hope she had for today's meeting the moment she saw Maya.
"She won't hurt me," Maya promised Nathaniel as she gave his hand a comforting squeeze.
His eyes lingered on her for a second, unreadable and harsh until he finally let go and nodded, "Use my office," he told her as he kissed her on the forehead.
