The music ended as Nathaniel tried his best to put Maya at ease, but she still glared at him, as if he had kept the secret of Gabriel's parentage and not her.
To avoid making a scene, Nathaniel pulled her aside, to the back of the side of the stage where others wouldn't see them.
"That's why you prepared that feast the night I had to— that night, wasn't it?" he asked as he avoided saying that night that he had abandoned her.
