Maya walked over to Cassandra's parents and guided them to her couch.
Katerina was quickly next to her, handing the couple a bottle of water each. She could only imagine the pain they were going through.
Both she and Cassandra were mothers, they knew how deeply a parent's love ran. They knew how painful it was for Cassandra's parents to watch their own daughter being dragged away.
"I'm sorry you had to suffer that," Maya said, truly apologetic.
"You are sorry as a mother, but as a person, we all know that my Cassandra got off lightly," Cassandra's mother said, tears still falling from her eyes, but a new fire burning behind them.
"You're right, she got off lightly for her crimes," Maya nodded, not denying the truth. "But we are human and a little compassion can go a long way."
Cassandra's mother nodded, not saying anything else.
