Maya froze, she didn't know what to say or do.
Did Nate also know who Gabriel's father was?
"I don't want to pressure you into anything," Nate said as he held her hand and gently caressed it. "I just wanted you to know that when the time comes I'll be willing to adopt Gabriel."
Maya could feel the tears started to fall from her eyes.
"Nate, I—" she was about to speak when Nate shook his head and pressed his index finger gently on her lips.
"I don't need to know, Maya," Nate said with a sigh. "You don't have to give me reasons or excuses, I was the one that left you years ago."
"But, Nate—" she began to say.
"In my heart, Gabriel is my son, if you will let me be his father," he said with an awkward smile, not letting Maya finish what she was about to say.
Maya could feel her heart beating faster and faster with every sentence Nate uttered. He didn't know who Gabriel's father was, but he was willing to accept him as his own.
