Chapter 10 - Boss fight (long chapter)

Below the cube stood a two meter tall monstrosity with its eyes closed, although Diedrich hadn't seen it before he realised it was the goblin leader.

The goblin leader had the same facial features as the goblins being green with long pointy ears, however, its mouth was different, being huge with two razor sharp teeth the size of Diedrich finger growing out at the bottom edges.

The goblin leader's arms and legs were as thick as tree trunks and were packed with muscle. It still wore a primitive cloth only covering up the private parts and was holding a club the size of Diedrich.

The goblin leader was currently sitting on its wooden throne with his eyes closed, making Diedrich assume he was sleeping.

Not wanting to battle the big guy Diedrich quickly turned around and wanted to head above ground however he couldn't do it as he wanted the points!

The goblin leader was currently sleeping and Diedrich remembered that he only had to be in a three meter proximity of the black cube to destroy it, meaning that he could destroy it from a distance giving him some room for escape encase the big guy woke up.

Thinking about it some more, Diedrich ended up doing something he never thought he would do and sneakily made his way over to the goblin leader.

It was quite nerve racking as the goblin leader was in the middle of the room and there were no obstacles to hide behind so if the goblin leader opened his eyes he would be found out immediately.

As Diedrich quietly kept coming closer to the black cube, the distance was becoming shorter.

10 meters

8 meters…

6 meters…

4 meters

3 meters

Diedrich was now practically in front of the goblin leader being able to hear its heavy breathing, his heart pounding in his chest, Diedrich knew he had done something stupid again.

Diedrich was let down that the black cube didn't break when he came in a 3 meter proximity of it, however, he understood that he probably had to break it himself, the problem was that Diedrich didn't know the durability of the black cube so if it would take more than one strike by his spear he would wake up the goblin leader and immediately have to run.

As Diedrich was contemplating what to do he looked at the sleeping goblin leader making a sudden thought pop up in his mind "Why don't I just try to kill it".

The goblin leader was still sound asleep making this situation the perfect opportunity for an attack, even though Diedrich knew he was no match in terms of strength compared to the goblin he did think he could manage to run away successfully.

So Diedrich made up his mind as the black cube didn't look like it would shatter with one strike, so Diedrich decided to attack the goblin leader. Diedrich took one of the three spears from his back and prepared to throw it at the goblin leader's head, at a three meter distance he was confident he wouldn't miss, so Diedrich threw the spear with all his strength.

"Whoosh"

As the spear zipped through the air, flying at a ridiculous speed it lodged itself in the left eye of the goblin leader.

"Success", Diedrich thought, however at that moment "Gi?.. GI!!" The goblin leader awoken was first confused by the situation but became enraged when it felt the pain in its eye making it roar out like a lion.

The goblin leader, feeling the intense pain in his eye, looked around with his one good eye to find the perpetrator; he then saw Diedrich looking at him with an embarrassed smile as the human was beginning to turn around to run, furious the Goblin leader immediately pounced on the human.

When Diedrich saw that the spear had not killed the goblin, he decided to turn tails and run.

However the goblin leader would never allow it, as the goblin saw the tiny human running towards the exit he exerted all his force in his feet and leaped over the running human blocking his exit.

When Diedrich saw this he became frightened, "Why the F*ck did I provoke this monster again" was all Diedrich could think knowing that he had made a grave mistake.

Having blocked the exit the goblin leader ran towards Diedrich with his ginormous club performing a vertical swing, although the goblin leader was fast, Diedrich was quite nimble as well and with a barrel roll avoided the hit, although when the goblin leaders club hit the ground it left a small pit.

Diedrich became even more terrified knowing that he did not even come close to that sort of power.

All Diedrich could do was to continue to narrowly avoid the blasts by the goblin leader.

After a while of dodging swings, Diedrich noticed that the goblin leader had not adjusted to his new eyesight.

Exploiting this Diedrich tried to stay in its blind spot; this made it easier for him to not be pulverized.

Diedrich also noticed that the blood that was previously continuously leaking from the goblin leader's left eye was beginning to dry up.

Diedrich knew the wound was the only chance for him to defeat or escape the goblin leader as Diedrich could not go around the goblin leader who was blocking the exit.

The goblin leader hadn't taken out the spear in his eyes yet, perhaps because he had forgotten about it or didn't want to touch it, Diedrich saw this as an opportunity, he took another spear off his back and dodged the club again then he held the spear as a sword and vertically hit the end of the spear in the goblin leaders eye.

Immediately blood was seen gushing out and its left eye was now totally destroyed even the spear had fallen out of its eye, the goblin leader roared in pain and frantically swung at Diedrich with its club.

Due to the fast frantic swinging and Diedrich being in a stationary balanced position so he could have hit the spear with maximum force he didn't have time to dodge and could only hold the spear in a defensive position to try and block the blow, Diedrich parried the blow however the spear had snapped and he was sent flying for about 10 meters.

As Diedrich landed and rolled over the floor he coughed up a mouth full of blood but managed to stand up.

Although Diedrich had survived one of his arms was broken and he had internal damage, Diedrich had a grim expression when he saw the goblin leader charge at him again, yet gained a bit of hope as it was more sluggish than before and blood was still relentlessly flowing from its eye.

Diedrich knew he couldn't attack the goblin leader and only tried to dodge.

30 minutes later both Diedrich and the goblin leader were completely exhausted, Diedrich had lost all his energy while the goblin leader was in a similar state plus dying due to blood loss.

The goblin leaders' attacks were now extremely slow and Diedrich normally would have easily avoided them however, Diedrich had almost no energy left and knew that if he avoided this one he would be completely spent.

Having no choice Diedrich could only dodge the swing, after avoiding the attack he fell face forward to the ground completely out of energy. When the goblin leader saw this pesky human finally drop to the ground he let out an although exhausted triumphant 'Gi GI" and raised his club. However before he could smash the club down, he fell backwards.

Diedrich was barely conscious when he heard a notification in his mind making him smile before everything went black.

[Killed goblin leader + 65]

[Point score: 175✩✩]

...…..

2 hours later Diedrich woke up.

He felt a bit better and he could feel his internal injuries were getting healed, his arm still incredibly painful seemed to no longer be broken, which would have honestly shocked him more if he wasn't still in constant pain and had just experienced a life and death situation.

Although Diedrich was surprised that he had not been killed by another goblin yet, knowing that he should probably leave before the goblins return.

Diedrich as fast as his body allowed him (quite slowly) got up and walked towards the reason he first came here, the black cube still rotating slowly above the wooden throne.

When walking towards the black cube he first picked up a spear from the ground that he had dropped during the fight with the goblin leader as it would only slow him down, even during the fight when Diedrich luckily managed to land a hit on the goblin leader it was only a shallow scratch as he couldn't penetrate its hard muscle, so he decided to just drop all his stuff.

When Diedrich was directly in front of the goblin leader's throne he stabbed out the spear and hit the cube, making something happen that Diedrich didn't expect, the cube immediately stopped spinning, making a screeching sound as it gradually shrank to the size of a pebble.

Diedrich picked it up.

When Diedrich held the miniature black cube in his hand he was dumbfounded and then mad. " I could have just made easy points by destroying the black cube and running away, however I had to challenge the big boss who would have certainly killed me had I not injured it".

Diedrich laughed to himself in a cynical tone, although after careful consideration Diedrich found he made the right decision as the goblin leader would have still woken up had he destroyed the black cube first, and then he would have definitely been dead.

At that time the notification for destroying the black cube rang in his mind.

[Destroyed creation cube + 25]

[Point score: 200✩✩✩]

When Diedrich heard this and saw the number of stars he was ecstatic and wanted to jump, however as soon as he did he coughed up a bit of blood, and quickly stabilized himself. There was still an expression of happiness on his face as warm energy surrounded him and he began to feel strengthened, he somehow could also feel he was healing at a much faster rate than before.

Although Diedrich wanted to test out his new power he knew he would probably just cough up blood again and opted to quickly head outside, Diedrich kept the cube and put it in his makeshift bag along with two daggers, not wanting to carry too much weight he also only took one spear with him, leaving the rest of the stuff.

Diedrich didn't even think about taking the goblin leaders club with him as it was way too heavy and big for him to use.

Once outside Diedrich was surprised to see that it was still bright and from the sun's position he could tell that it would still be light for another couple of hours.

In reality, Diedrich had only spent seven hours, so he still had about five hours of sunlight left, although Diedrich was now stronger he was in no condition to hunt again, Diedrich slowly moved using the trees as cover until he was certain he was out of the goblin lair zone, and found a tree that looked tall and climbed with his aching body.

After finding a spot between the branches that looked cozy he began to study the cube, the cube was still pitch black however it was as big as a pebble now and as responsive as one, so Diedrich just put it back in the sack and contemplated about everything that had happened to him.

After a few hours, Diedrich was already starting to feel much better and could already semi-run, although he still had to be careful he didn't have to worry if he met a spear goblin but Diedrich decided to stay in the tree to heal his wounds some more, however at that time he heard some noises below.

"Gi Gi"

A goblin was underneath his tree and was screaming to his compatriots while pointing towards him, Diedrich then saw that a group of thirty goblins with 3 spear goblins leading approach him and immediately thought "Fuck".

It seemed the goblins had learned to look for people in trees after seeing numerous people escape or ambush them from trees.

The goblin gang was still a few meters away so Diedrich quickly jumped, when he reached the ground he gritted his teeth and could feel a few of his internal injuries open again.

Diedrich didn't care about the lone common goblin screaming at him and quickly dashed away.

After twenty minutes of desperate running Diedrich had managed to lose the goblin gang and was in a place he had not been before making him completely lost.

Diedrich quickly went up a tall tree and sat at a position very high where he was certain no one would be able to see him, after climbing up Diedrich was exhausted and went to sleep.
