Hours later, I stand behind Chetan as he talks to Ajay. He is still hysterical. I feel so helpless, I can't even comfort him.
"What was that potion for? I would have never let her sacrifice herself without a backup plan. I saw the bottle in your hand," Ajay asks.
"According to this siren, it was supposed to help her turn into a ghost one that we can see and hear," Chetan explains.
"Apparently it didn't work," Ajay says, putting his hands over his face.
"I am the worst mate ever," Chetan says.
"We should have tried to find another way," Ajay remarks.
I listen as cricket holds Kiara and they sit by the tree. "You need to try to stay calm for the baby," he tells her.
I move over to my resting place and lay down. I feel normal, but everything isn't normal. Nobody can hear me or see me. My arms are transparent. I think I would almost rather be gone completely.
Watching Chetan, I see him walk away from the others. Following him, I just want to talk and tell him how much I love him. He stops at where my body burned, which now lays nothing but ashes.
That's so weird to see what I became. What used to be my head, arms and legs are now nothing but Sandy dust.
I look as Chetan picks up some dust and puts it into a sandwich bag. "Now you'll always be with me," he says.
I want to cry, I feel all the emotions, but I feel no water coming from my eyes.
Chetan puts the bag into a little hand-knitted purse and puts it around his shoulder.
I hear the gallop of Centaurs. They ride in so quickly. I move towards Ajay's side. He walks to meet Elfie.
"Welcome back," Ajay smiles.
"I wanted to let you know that the creatures of the forest have decided to let the werewolves lead and take charge of the forest, we know that you will keep the balance," Elfie explains.
"It will be a great honor," Ajay responds.
Elfie bows and cries. "I am sorry about Zare, you have my deepest condolences," he says.
"Yeah, our hearts are broken, but proud of her courageous sacrifice," Ajay says.
I see the sadness on his face. Stupid potion, why won't you work?
Many hours pass, and I walk around in total frustration. Nobody can see me. I want to touch Chetan and hold him. Not to mention kiss him. I watch Chetan walk to where we sleep and lay down. He picks up my knitted pillow and smells it. I rub his back. If only he can feel my touch, my love. If only he could feel me.
"Chetan, are you sure you want to be here alone?" Dev asks.
"Yes, I feel Zare here," Chetan responds, still smelling my pillow.
Dev nods, and walks away.
Chetan lays staring up at the night sky.
"Why didn't that Potion work?" He yells.
I cry. God, I've been asking the same question.
"Zare, where are you?" He asks.
"I am here." I bring my lips to him, I kiss him intensely. It still feels the same. I am surprised when I can even taste his lips.
I feel his fingers run through my hair. I feel him kissing my lips. I pull my lips away.
"Zare, here you are," he smiles at me, I see the tears of happiness in his eyes.
"You can see?" I cry.
"I can, you've been here every since?" He asks.
I nod.
"I'm just glad you're back," he says, kissing me passionately, pulling my body into his.
Once our lips pull apart, I lay next to him. "Something must have happened when we kissed."
"Like that's what the potion needed?" He asks.
"I guess Zero, forgot to tell me the potion needed true love's kiss."
"Or he knew you would kiss me all on your own," Chetan laughs.
I laugh too. "It was just a matter of time."
"Let's go see if the other can see you," Chetan tells me.
We move towards the fire where everyone is sitting. They all look in our direction.
"Zare, I thought I lost you." Ajays cries.
I feel many arms around me of the people I love most.
I am home. With my pack, my friends, and Chetan. The werewolves are the leaders of the forest. Everything worked out in the end.
