"I'm sorry Abigail for the way I spoke to your mother back there. It wasn't my intention to be rude to her. I just wanted her to know the crime she has committed against you and me."
"Crime! Against us? What crime are you talking about?" Abigail asked calmly.
But instead of getting a reply, she got a warm but distraught hug from Alex.
"Oh, Alex, please stop crying." Abigail stroked his hair tenderly. "It hurts me seeing you like this. Please, tell me what aches your heart. I'm here for you. Talk to me. You know I care so much about you. Please."
Alex pulled away from her briefly and kissed her tenderly on the forehead. He held her face and said in a more composed voice.
"Promise me that you will not hate me or turn your back on me, when I tell you the truth about us."
