Adrian ignored Abigail's statement as he moved closer to her and wrapped his arms around her.
"Adrian, stop!" Abigail pushed him off her and rolled away from his side. She stood up and walked away from the bedside, hand folded across her chest. "Please go away. I don't need you anymore. I'm fine being by myself and you don't have to feel sorry for me. You are no longer welcome to stay by my side. I want to be left alone to mourn my losses. Can't you please leave?"
"No..." Adrian sat up on the bed, holding Abigail's gaze. "I can never leave you and I do not feel sorry for you. Leaving you is like rejecting myself. If you're hurting, then I am also hurting."
Adrian stood up and moved slowly towards Abigail.
"Abby, I'm sorry about everything my family did to you. I'm sorry for the way they treated you physically and emotionally. I'm sorry I wasn't there to protect you from them. I'm sorry you're feeling so much hurt right now because of me. Please..."
