Adrian kept his hawkish gaze on Alex, unsure of what his motives were for uttering that statement. Everything felt weird all around him.
Alex's countenance, the hidden danger behind his statement, his motives, and the way he was behaving placed Adrian on high alert. He looked at the glass of wine resting on the table wondering if Alex would be so cold as to poison him.
"Alex I know we've had our differences in the past and I acknowledge my mistake. I respect you as a man, a friend, and even a brother that I never had. I'm grateful for the fact that Abigail brought us back together as friends. I am also grateful that you're willing to fight for her love fair and square. However, I'm not comfortable with you stepping down and handing Abigail over to me just like that. This is so unlike you. That is why I will be asking as a friend, why?"
"Why?" Alex chuckled bitterly as he poured himself another glass of drink and gulped the whole content down.
