Chapter 16 - Sphere

Fray Norman's POV

As time went past, I lost the track and the sense of it.

For how long have I been stuck in this endless void, which consists of nothing—it's just darkness?

The only time when I can see some light is when I fuse my mana and burst my sun magic into this void, but now, after this endless suffering and searing torture by my so-called master, Kang, I hate it.

From the moment I was transferred here, I didn't eat, sleep, or drink at all.

Even though eating and drinking aren't necessary for me, probably because this body isn't really my physical one but my spiritual one,

It's actually close to what those crazy magicians in my previous life used to predict: that in the near future, we will have some sort of invisible space that will allow us to talk to each other through itself, and not only that, but this so-called space was supposed to enhance our living conditions by far by allowing us to even work and learn from it!

Although I'm not really sure about the rest of their tales, well, I mean, no one really cared about their blabber, and mostly they were just some random street tugs who were used to survive by begging or something of low class.

The whole time that I have been trapped in here, I couldn't sleep—the mana surrounding me is too dense and hard to resist, I'm not sure if my physical body actually required some rest, but my mental mind did.

My body is regenerating again. Well, it might help with some slight burns, but the other burns on my skin are engraved as scars now.

How did I receive them? Simple,

The second sword technique of the Sun God, the all-burning sphere.

The name of this technique already tells you what it is.

But the strength. The heat. It's terrifying.

Even with my miserable amount of mana, the sphere that I can cast is already deadly.

The principle of this technique is quite simple, but that's how it seems at the start—when you try casting it, you realize its deadly nature.

A single mistake can cost the user his life by completely burning his body.

"Nurture the mana from your core into your mana routes, then direct them into your hands, your sword, and concentrate the larger portion of it into the edge of your sword, and then begin forming a sphere on the edge of your sword—the more mana you use for your formed sphere, the lethal it will be, and the size will also increase accordingly."

It seemed pretty simple, and I thought, "What could possibly go wrong, and how hard would forming a sphere be?"

Kang only laughed at my smug face, waiting for me to use the technique.

Shit, I remember that day as if it happened a moment ago, especially how Kang laughed when I almost burned myself to ashes.

When I began casting the technique, from nurturing mana to directing it into my sword, everything was smooth and easy.

But when I concentrated my mana on the edge of the sword and began forming the sphere, the tourchere began.

My hands were starting to burn, and it was at that moment that I realized why Kang said to idle some portion of my mana into my hands and my sword—but I couldn't stop casting the technique; my instincts were telling me that if I stopped, then I'd face death.

The more mana I gathered in the sphere, the more pain I suffered.

Now, not only were my hands burning, but my whole body was on fire. My skin turned red from the burns; I could feel the lower layer of my skin getting blistered from inside; my skin turned splotchy; and it was swollen.

When the sphere was finally formed and I blasted it somewhere in this void, I felt like the dimension itself was getting burned.

I couldn't hide my expression, so Kang effortlessly noticed my amazement.

"Astonished by this mere power? This is for the weak, the strong must astonish other."

"Sigh, but I guess you're still a kid," – Kang murmured. Even though I couldn't see his physical body, I could sense him looking at me as if he were looking at an ant.

"Well, I don't want to break your heart, but the amount of power that this sphere consisted of,"

"You won't be able to use it. The one that you will be able to use, as in now with your weak physical strength and your worthless core, will be about 5? or 10 times weaker than this one"

"You want to know why you were able to cast this sphere? I mean, I am pretty sure you understand it yourself, but I'll still clarify, just in case you burned your brain as well, hahahaha!" – Now it felt like he was just bullying me.

"Alright, alright, even though a moment ago mana almost killed you or burned you, it also protected your body; the dense mana didn't allow the heat of the sphere to fully reach you, so be thankful, hahahahah."

This was when I first used it; now, after months of training this technique, I have finally mastered it.

The heat of the sphere doesn't burn me any more; on the contrary, it just keeps me warm.

My body, which is fully covered in 4th to 5th degree burns, resembles my hard work and suffering.

Even Kang was delighted by my mastery; he didn't expect me to master his technique this soon.

He didn't want to admit it at the beginning, but when he got tired of me endlessly asking him to tell me how long it took him to master his technique, he surrendered and admitted that it took him about 3–4 years.

But it's the last sword technique that I will learn for now; my body is too weak. Kang told me that if I continue training, my soul will shatter and I will completely cease to exist.

There's one last thing that Kang will teach me before I go back to my world—the sun mana gathering method.

Compared to other methods, it's supposedly the supreme method, and I'll be able to lay my hands on it.
