Hervidor's overbearing power seemed to stand like a barrier between me and the happiness I longed to find. Yet being with Charles was where I felt most comfortable. It's everything I had hoped for, searched for and longed for while in my darkroom at Hervidor's manor house.
"I will keep you hidden away as many times as it takes to keep you safe. He won't find you, and eventually, he will give up. I am no longer under his spell. I broke the spell years ago, and he is my maker as well as yours. It's not easy to break the hold, but eventually, the ties become weaker over time. The spell breaks on its own," Charles retorted, his voice rising to a level I'd never heard before.
"It won't work, Charles. I will stay and remain here for just this one time, as you wish. But I will have to leave once Hervidor passes through," I remained firm.
