"Don't you dare come any closer, Hervidor, heed my warning tonight. You will be defeated," I warned as I stepped closer to him, leaving enough room between Hera and me.
The protection of my family was important to me, and I didn't care whether I placed myself in direct danger. My fate had long since been decided. I had thought about how much I would like to stay with Charles, but now there seemed to be so much mystery surrounding him and his life. The least I could hope for would be to stay alive, even as a pitiful human.
"Oh, and how do you propose to do that?" he asked, genuinely having fun with the situation.
Charles was angry as he tried to make his way back to me, with Xante holding on to him, refusing to let go. Everyone waited with bated breath for the showdown between Hervidor and me.
"I have ways, Hervidor. I'm not the same, Nessy," I warned again.
