The twins didn't wait for the morning to wake them up, instead tolling bells rang throughout the city, alerting those that danger was near.
Isla and Sila both opened their eyes, staring at each other, Isla asked "Are you ready?"
Sila responded carelessly, "Mhmm".
Isla could only roll her eyes, the time where Sila should be most serious, and she acts like its no different from a walk down the street.
The two quickly washed up, taking out some dry food to eat before the battle, so as not to be distracted by hunger.
Regis stood at the front gate of the mansion, rows of academy guards stood in formation behind him. The few students that agreed, as well as Eris were waiting nearby.
Seeing as everyone seemed to have arrived, Regis shouted over the tolling bells, "This is the last chance to stay. No one's going to judge you".
No one moved, all staring at him with certainty. Regis truly felt the spirit of bravery emanating from these people in front of him. It had been a long time for him to be so excited, he laughed heartily and spoke "Very well, since you've decided, then there's no point in me saying anything unnecessary. Magicians, you'll follow Eris to the top of the city wall, with the rest of Arqin's magic users. Warriors you'll come outside the city with me. Remember to be on guard at all times, there is no telling where a monster may attack".
Regis looked at the group in front of him, with one last shout, "ARE YOU READY!?"
A resounding "YES!" came from the group. And with that, the group rushed towards the city wall.
Regis took them to the northern gate, where the beast tide was said to be coming from. In the distance, he could see countless magicians and warriors moving around, the top of the wall was densely filled. And on the street were workers from the government dealing with logistical problems.
Eris looked at her husband, and whispered "Be careful", waiting for him to bow his head, she gave him a light peck on the lips, before taking the few student magicians away with her.
Regis watched as Eris made it up to the top of the city wall, his eyes full of love. When he looked back, he saw the academy guards and the warrior students all looking at him. Even he as a rough man couldn't help blushing in embarrassment, which earned the disgusted looks of the group.
He coughed to calm the situation and said "Let's go".
The group followed him tk walk out through the gates. Isla and Sila thought that the top of the wall was dense, but they didn't realise that outside the city would be much more populated.
When they heard that the city lord asked for help, they assumed that there wouldn't be many volunteers, only relying on the city's army, but the two of them saw not only city guards. There were also private soldiers, adventurers, lone warriors.
Isla and Sila were sizing up the warriors outside the wall while following their group, easily noticing that there were quite a few people that they couldn't see the strength of.
The two looked at each other with excitement. Wondering if they'd be able to learn some things from these powerful warriors, by watching them fight today. But thinking about it, they definitely shouldn't allow themselves to be distracted. That kind of carelessness would not be acceptable.
The city lord himself was a warrior of similar strength to Regis, so he stood in the front of the warriors, and looked at the force that had come tk defend Arqin.
"I just want to thank every one of you brave souls for being willing to come here, to defend this city with me. I believe with the combined strength of all of us, this beast tide will go down as one of the quickest to finish" the city lord said with a smile.
Everyone around laughed and cheered. Although they knew that it would probably not be so, but the city lords words were to ease the situation, and maintain morale.
The penetrating sound of rushing and roaring appeared just after the sun broke over the horizon. The soldiers and guards all took up the frontal positions, raising their weapons and their shields, standing in a close and densely packed formation.
The stronger warriors stayed behind, waiting to pick off the more dangerous monsters that hid in the tide.
The magicians on the wall prepared to attack the rear of the monsters and support the frontal formation whenever they could. And the healers of the church stood by the gate for any injured warriors that needed aid.
Isla and Sila were stood at the back. Although they themselves didn't think they should be here with the stringer warriors, but Regis personally told them to follow him and no one of the other warriors around Regis said anything.
The tide broke through the trees just as it had been written, like a wave, the monsters hit the formation, almost breaking it instantly. Thankfully the number of soldiers was enough tk stop the tide from piercing through, but the screams and shouts from the front had already foretold the devastation that would come from this battle.
After finally bracing the impact of the tide, the warriors began to push back against the monsters. The magicians above began firing off countless spells, and the strongest warriors behind started to flash towards the monsters at speeds that couldn't be seen by many.
Isla and Sila had never seen such an intense scene. Even the beetle horde was nothing compared to what they were witnessing in front of their eyes, but the two of them only showed a smile to each other. And just as Eris had done for Regis. Isla lent over and kissed Sila's lips. Every battle was a life and death situation, and she didn't want to never have the chance to let Sila know she loved her. Just in case the worst happened, at least she expressed herself beforehand. However if she owns up to it after the battle is a different matter entirely, after all, Sila has said she wouldn't rush her for an answer.
