"Impossible! Do you think those little brats could take on that entire group?" a rare female adventure chimed in.
The crowd whispered in agreement. The ring the twins held, belonged to the leader of a vicious team. Not only were they highly skilled individually, but their teamwork was also well trained. They were a formidable group that not only completed difficult quests, but also hunted down other adventurers. This practice is an unwritten rule for the occupation. As long as you don't kill them in the adventurers guild, the higher ups will usually turn a blind eye to it. But now a pair of twins that haven't even reached adulthood have the prized storage ring of the groups leader?
How could they not be shocked?
While the crowd was busy conversing, the twins had started to grow impatient with the woman that registered them, who just stared at them with a shocked expression.
"Y-y-y.." she stuttered
Isla interrupted the woman, "We'd like to sell the horned rabbits, if that's possible."
The woman named Ivy was indeed in a state of shock. She had seen countless young people come in to register. Eyes full of hope and ambition, but time after time she herself grew disappointed with their endings. Either overconfident of their abilities, or targeted for their belongings. The boys got off easy with a quick death, the girls suffered a lot more. The few who could survive through it all were left jaded and resentful, becoming what they once hated most.
She thought these two girls were the same. Perhaps they died doing a task. She looked up at their appearance, thinking that would be the most merciful end to their lives. But now the two are standing in front of her, the new armour and weapons that were completely intact this morning are now covered in scratches and cuts, bloodied and broken in many places.
However they stand in front of her with a pile of horned rabbit corpses, taken out of that cunning old wizards storage ring. Luckily she had seen many things in her time at the guild, so she quickly reined in her expression and said, "Of course it is possible. Without the magic cores, the five together will be worth 450 silver coins. Add onto that the 50 silver coins for the success of your task, the total comes to 500 silver coins".
Isla thought it was quite fair so she agreed without much hesitation. After putting away the silver coins, the twins walked out of the guild hall under the scrutinising gazes of all the adventurers.
Naturally the two were so blatant for a reason. They came here to train their abilities, not to be distracted by the petty squabbles and rivalries between adventurers. Showing off the storage ring can save a lot of trouble. Those that would've made trouble for them just because they looked down on them would definitely have to think twice, but those that intended to harm them would now only have groups stronger then the one they just faced, which can be used by them as real experience.
After facing off against that group, the two had already found many problems in their performance. If they hadn't resorted to using brute strength there at the end, they might not be as carefree as they are at this moment.
Just the magician alone made them a little fearful. Isla and Sila are very capable against melee fighters. They have been training in close quarter combat since they learned of this power they possessed, but they truly pale in comparison to long range based mages. The two definitely needed to come up with a plan on how to negate their disadvantages in long range combat. But first they really needed to find a place to stay.
Walking down the street, the two of them were still in awe of the size of the city. The streets were wide enough to fit four carriages side by side, and looking forwards from where they were, they could only just see the outer wall of the city. If this is just a little known border city, then what does the capital look like?
Luckily the city was divided into districts. Four districts, split evenly into quarters. One belonged to the wealthy, which was heavily guarded and had little foot traffic. The next was the official district, where the city management and barracks resided. Then the last two were naturally the commercial and the residential districts. Where they were walking was the commercial district, which included the halls of various guilds, merchant, adventurers, blacksmithing, as well as the countless shops. The only difference is that there are no stalls, which is what really drives it home that they have set foot on their own journey.
They headed in the direction of the residential district which was connected to the commercial, they knew there would be some stores that sold or rented houses and they wanted to check the prices of each before deciding which route to take.
Although they knew they weren't going to stay in Rusvil forever. After such a dangerous win earlier, they knew they needed time to train before they could even think about heading inland. The closer they got to the capital, the stronger the magicians and warriors would be.
The two searched for the housing stores, and after looking through the pricing, they decided to buy a house. For about 300 silver coins they could buy a decent house in the upper middle reaches of the residential district. Although it was costly, it saved them having to deal with a landlord, and it was theirs, they wouldn't need to care about anyone else's opinions.
Luckily houses at that price came comfortably furnished, so the two paid the total amount and visited their new home. A quaint brick house stood in the centre of a well maintained yard. The perimeter was wrapped in hedges that reached their waists.
Isla and Sila looked at each other, a sincere smile showed on their faces.
"This is our first home, Sila"
"It's beautiful, Isla".
