Chapter 202 - Basic of Rune

When he returned the next day, he could feel the stares from the other auxiliary specialists. He could have guessed why they looked at him like that but what he cannot fathom is how they knew. It's not like he waved his token around like a lunatic.

Then again, how he had been seeing coming out of three different departments in the span of three days, caused some to notice the oddities. Maybe they even thought him to be an incompetent person who could not master a single auxiliary profession.

Well, he never cared for the opinions of others. He only needs to do his best in whatever he tries to achieve and he would be pleased with the results. Still, the mindset doesn't mean the stares will never stop not annoying.

He headed towards the Rune Specialist department and spotted the instructor he had chosen to learn from. The instructor nodded before leading him to the room Rune Specialists used to make their crafts.

While the room still contained some tools, most of them were writing tools and what he believed to be a carving knives, and some other objects he didn't recognize. Following the script from before, the rune specialist let him look around the room.

After he was done, the man began his lecture, which became a routine for him at this point. "Before we start, I'm going to tell you more about Rune.

Rune has some synonyms, such as symbols and characters. But the term rune is more widely known because of how easier it is to say compared to the other synonyms,"

"Really?" Ryker asked, baffled by the explanation. The man laughed loudly.

"Yes, I'm not joking. But we are glad for the reason. Can you imagine referring to people like me as Symbol Specialist or Character Specialist?" Ryker shook his head. On second thought, he could see the wisdom behind the choice.

"So, what is Rune? Rune is simply a character that can contain energy and power. Any character can be used, even the characters we use in our daily life, in other words, what make up the language we use today.

But different runes, even with the same intention could have different powers. For example, this is two runes of fire," the rune specialist drew two different runes, though the difference is not much.

"The two look the same, right?" Ryker nodded, "That's exactly the point. Now, watch this," he activated the two runes. Ryker could feel the same amount of power being sent to each rune but one of them had a much stronger flame, that he could see.

"See the difference? And that just if it just a small tweak. A completely different rune will have a different effect. Some could even create a more powerful flame than you see before.

The power of the rune is also determined by the size of it. The bigger the rune, theoretically, the more power it could unleash, whether it is in terms of longevity or power. Metaphorically, think rune as a vase, the size of the rune being the size of the vase and the shape of the rune is the type of vase.

All the difference would give rise to different vases that could hold different amounts of things, correct?" Ryker nodded. He could see what the man meant even though the analogy was a bit dull.

That is the basis of what a rune is and what it is capable of. Now I'm talking about how to make runes work. While one rune could unleash a good amount of power, it is better to combine different types of runes to increase efficiency and power. Multiple runes combined together are called an Inscription.

That's why talismans will have multiple runes, whether it is the same one or different runes combined. However, to know whether one rune will work with another and so on require knowledge and experience accumulated through countless practice. Only then one could unleash the true power of runes.

There are two ways to use runes, talismans, and engraving. Talismans are something you should have some knowledge about, whether you have used one or have one being used on you. People who mastered this branch are called Talismans Specialist, Talismans Maker, and Talismans Master.

To create talismans, the two most important components are ink and paper. However, we don't use the general items everyone else uses. The paper and ink we used tend to be more... exotic in nature.

For example, the paper a Genesis Grade 1 Talismans Master will be made from the wood from a Grade 1 Black Bamboo or something similar. As for ink, the ingredient for a Grade 1 Ink will be regular ink that is enhanced with powdered Genesis Stone. Sometimes, the ink will be made from the blood of Rank 1 Genesis Beast. And yes, there is a grading system for the ink and papers."

The man added as Ryker was about to ask him something, prompting him to close his mouth. The man hides his amusement. After all, almost all that tried to learn how to become a Talisman Master with no background asked the same questions.

The second one is Engraving. Engraving is about carving runes into any items, from simple tools to artifacts to weapons and even armor. Engraving is the more difficult branch as one needs to have the strength and materials necessary to carve into wood or even worse, a piece of metal.

As for what the engravement is made of, it also varied. Some used liquified Genesis Stones. Some used molten metal. All in all, it depends on the resources one has in one's hand.

Of course, because of the mediums, there are differences. While talismans are single-use items with effect depending on the type of talismans, engraving is permanent and enhanced, if not shaped by the ability of the items, artifacts, weapons, or armor it was engraved on.

Because of how difficult it is to do engraving, we will first start with Talisman making. You can learn how to do engraving later," Ryker merely nodded. After all, the master had spoken and given him advice. It is foolish to discard it when your knowledge regarding the subject is flat zero.

Ryker watched as the man took a piece of paper, "This paper is called Talismans Paper, a rather self-explanatory name while this, "he pointed at a jar filled with ink, "Is the Talismans Ink, another self-explanatory name,"

"Now," Ryker turned his attention to the Talismans Paper, watching as the rune specialist dangled a brush on the paper, "Observe every motion I made,"
