Chapter 2 - Parent's Explanation

He looked at the two people in front of him with worry

"What do you mean by that?" he asked, hoping whatever they would tell him wouldn't be too bad. Unfortunately, he was wrong.

"We won't last long Ryker. Soon, we going to dissipate," Mother said, sadness filling the tone of her voice.

"What do you mean by that?! Please, just explain it," he didn't mean to yell, but the way Mother spoke, she didn't mean that, right?

"It's as your mother said, soon, in maybe 6 years, 7 if we were lucky, we will disappear from this world," too bad that Father confirmed what Mother said.

He opened his mouth, only to find that no words coming out, his mind in distress from the revelation. Wordlessly, he plopped down on his seat, his eyes vacant as he stared at the two most important people in his life.

"So, what will happen to us, What are we going to do without you guys?" tears flowed down as he asked, not making any attempt to wipe it.

"That is for you to decide, my son. By the time we are gone, this island will be no more. After all, this place is linked to us, our presence and existence are the only reason this place came to be," Father answered.

Putting the question he had on how their home is created for another time, he asked, "So, where can we go?"

Looking at each other, Father and Mother stood up, Mother motioning him to follow. Walking to them, the trio walked outside before Mother pointed her hand towards the sea.

"Across the sea is a vast land, filled with places and wonders not found in this small island of ours. There would be many things for you to explore. However, danger can also be found in every corner, so you need to be careful lest you lose your life,"

While he had some guess that there were other places besides their small island, this was the first time his parent said something about it, his previous attempts to ask about it being brushed off.

"Why do you never say anything about it before?" he questioned them.

"Because we want to spend time with all of you in this safe haven we made. We also want you to explore the world on your own in the future, without us deciding for you," Ryker nodded before narrowing his eyes.

"You said it like you knew you wouldn't live long," his accusing tone made the two sigh.

"You always so perspective Ryker. Alright, we going to tell you a part of our life stories, but not all of them. You will learn more in the future when you are stronger. The part of the story is near the end if you can say it like that.

Before, we and a group of our friends we badly injured, to the point none of us had a physical form. We are just there but unable to do much. One day, our friends decided to sacrifice their entire being, just for us to have some physical form.

However, even with their sacrifice, these bodies are numbered, only able to hold for a few decades. We always knew we wouldn't be there for you in the future. So we want to have some time with you without any care for the world beyond,"

Hearing the tales quench the little anger in his heart. In a sense, he could understand why his parent did such a thing. They wished their children could live a life without worry before they were sent to a world unknown to them.

"So, are we going to leave soon?" Father and Mother shook their head at their eldest.

"No, like we said, we still have a few more years, years we going to spend making you ready for the world. The first thing is to tell you about basic information about the world.

First, the name of the world. The people used to call it by a different name. They only reached a consensus on the name about 2 millennia ago. The name chosen is Rohuka, one agreed upon by nearly all of the people.

Secondly, the race living in this world. There are many races, some living on land, some living underwater, with some even living on floating islands in the sky. However, the races could be put into 8 major racial groups. Human, Monster, Beastkin, Undeath, Elemental, Spirit, Holy and Demon.

All races can be put in any of the 8 groups. Similarly, each major racial group controls one huge territory, often referred to as Realm. That is not to say there won't be any other race or people from different racial groups, just the racial group controlling the Realm would be the majority.

For example, the Human Realm would be filled mostly with human and their sub-races," Realising something, Ryker asked,

"Sub-races?"

"Yes. Not every race from the same racial group will look the same. Some might be shorter. Some might have different skin tones. Sometimes, two races from the same racial group will look completely different.

The best example is the Human race, they often look the same, just different skin tones and different average height, then you have elves, with their pointy ears, and merpeople, having bodies of half men, half fish and so on,"

Ryker nodded, understanding what his father saying.

"Of course, the people of the world also do some transactions. Unlike us who can get whatever we need from the island, they could not do so. Either because the lack of resource or due to natural disaster.

For them to get the items they need, they require currency," Father took out out something, a round object he realize, that seem to shine from the light. "This is a gold coin, one of the more important and precious form of currency in the world.

There are two others, copper, and silver coins. Less valuable but still used, mostly for the low-quality and everyday item.

Aside from currency, there is also the matter of cultures. Cultures varied depending on races, the place they resides, and many other reason. You should always learn the culture of the place you went, and make sure to know the proper etiquette, so you will not offend anyone.

We will teach you some of the more common etiquette during the next few years. But before we end this talk, I am going to impart you one more knowledge, regarding another subject. It is not inherent of this world, but knowing, no, applying it could mean the different between life and death,"

"Not inherent, but could save me?" Ryker asked, puzzled.

"Yes, we are going to touch the subject of cultivation,"
