Chapter 19 - The Rising Ceremony [1]

'Finally, the day had arrived' I thought as I looked at the massive entrance gate of the Capital City. This gate is the largest gate I have ever seen. It's even larger than the Indian gate which is around 45 metres. There is a large queue for checking but we can enter the city immediately as we are from the Blackthorn family.

I was in awe after looking at the city. It's not like the modern city of my previous world but the buildings and roads are not bad. They have amazing architectural designs with amazing technology to make it possible. They don't have skyscrapers but they created floating buildings that even my previous world's designs can't achieve. Of course magic makes everything possible.

We are heading toward the palace owned by the Blackthorn's in the capital city. My father will not stay at that place because he has to attend a lot of meetings. It's very rare to have all the great family heads together so they must be busy discussing important things.

Not only me, even Olivia and Luna are amazed by the city. They are both looking excitedly outside the window. They really want to explore the capital city.

"Let's explore this city after the ceremony," I said as I also want to see all the things this city has to offer. This is the best city in the human domain. When they heard what I said, Lily jumped into my arms. I caught her. Olivia also has an excited expression but she can't hug me as Lily is all over me.

'She'll really cause trouble someday' I thought as Luna sometimes loses control of Lily. Lily can act without thinking. She is like a child, very unpredictable, and always listens to feelings.

As Luna took control of the body, She moved away from me. She sat down next to Olivia, opposite me, and chatted happily with Olivia. When I saw the smiles on their faces, I thought they really grow close with one another.

...

'This is what a real palace looks like,' I thought as I gazed at the Blackthorn family's palace in the capital. Olivia wore the same expression. I made my way towards the entrance of the palace, and the servants quickly cleared a path for me. It seemed to be a customary gesture whenever I entered any palace here. They formed a pathway, guiding me towards the end where I encountered an elderly maid, the head maid of this palace.

She bowed respectfully and escorted me to my assigned room. I couldn't expect the most luxurious room in the capital, as those were always reserved for high-ranking family members. Nonetheless, the room looked decent as I surveyed my surroundings.

The head maid took Olivia under her care to prepare her for today's event. The Rising Ceremony spanned two days. On the first day, everyone engaged in interactions while the heads of the families abstained. On the second day, all participants would showcase their talents. As evening had already arrived, I made my way towards the bathroom, aware that I needed to prepare myself for the upcoming event.

...

'Wow,' I thought as I admired my reflection in the mirror. Clad in an impeccable all-black suit, it harmonized perfectly with my black hair and eyes. I possessed a somewhat masculine physique reminiscent of my 18-year-old self from my previous world. Here, growth seemed accelerated, perhaps due to the influence of mana. Standing at approximately 6 feet tall, I boasted a lightly muscular frame. The choice to wear all black was a tradition within the Blackthorn family, symbolizing our presence and identity in a crowd. Even my father would be attired in black for this event.

As I turned around, the sound of the door opening drew my attention. Olivia stood before me, dressed in a captivating black maid gown adorned with a golden print on the edges. She possessed a fascinating figure, comparable to the finest models in my previous world. With her cold expression and queen-like demeanor, she could easily be mistaken for royalty. Personal maids played a crucial role in events like this, tending to their master's preferences and dislikes while the master engaged in networking and connections.

"Third Lord, if you are ready, we can depart now," the head maid stated. Although her manner may have seemed disrespectful, she served as my father's personal maid, granting her the right to exhibit such arrogance. I nodded in agreement and began making my way towards the exit.

...

I am in the lobby of the royal family palace, a sight more magnificent than any palace I had witnessed in my previous world or life. Its golden-like material leaves me speechless, incapable of adequately describing its beauty. Seated on the couch, Olivia stands beside me.

As a member of the Blackthorn family, ranked fourth, I am slated to enter fifth from the last, with the princess being the final entrant. I had been assigned a VIP room until my turn arrived. Now, it seems the time has come.

A graceful maid approaches and beckons me to enter. 'Finally, waiting is painful,' I think to myself as I rise from my seat and move towards the entrance gate. Olivia follows a step behind me, positioned to my right. The grand gate swings open, its resounding echo reverberating through the event room: "Asher Blackthorn - Third Lord of the Blackthorn Family."

As my name resonates throughout the room, all eyes turn towards me, their gazes seemingly frozen in place. They stare in my direction, and for a moment, it boosts my confidence. However, as I take a few more steps, I realize most of their attention is fixed on Olivia, captivated by her cold and confident demeanor.

I proceed towards a counter resembling a bar counter, reaching my destination and settling into a chair nearby. My intention is to refrain from forming connections with anyone present here. Knowing that some individuals possess exceptional political skills, whereas I lack such acumen, it is best not to engage in conversation that could potentially reveal information about me or my goals.

As I sit, Olivia stands beside my chair. I survey the room, noticing that many continue to gaze in my direction—or rather, in Olivia's direction. I am aware that these young heirs from prominent families have a penchant for beautiful girls. I instruct Olivia to bring me a drink, prompting some individuals to cast me hateful glances. Nevertheless, I pay them no mind, and instead, I turn my attention to the main character, Lux Stormborn. He must be occupied with networking.

While scanning the crowd for the presence of the MC, I observe others making their entrances. However, I pay little attention to them, for they hold no significance to me. Continuing my search for the MC, I suddenly feel a gaze filled with pure malice directed towards me. Following that piercing stare, my eyes meet those of a girl who lacks conventional beauty, glaring at Olivia with undisguised malice. She entered after us, indicating her affiliation with one of the top three families. It seems some people develop inferiority complexes, and she likely feels inferior in the presence of Olivia, as almost every male in the room continues to fixate their attention on Olivia.

'I hope she will not cause any trouble,' I thought as I glanced in her direction. She had a handsome manservant standing behind her, though no one seemed to pay her any attention. Perhaps she had assumed she would be the center of attraction at this event.

I turned away from her, further fueling her fury. Taking a sip from my drink, I resumed my search for the MC. Suddenly, I felt an attack coming in our direction. When I turned towards it, I saw a large beam of bluish substance moving rapidly towards Olivia, specifically targeting her. The girl wore a creepy smile on her face.

While it is forbidden to kill someone during a royal event, the girl, being from one of the top three families, may have believed that the punishment would not be severe for killing a mere maid. Everyone's attention shifted towards Olivia, with some even moving to help her. Many wished to be the hero who saves beauty, while others closed their eyes, unwilling to witness her potential demise.

Calmly, I took another sip from my drink and watched as the beam approached. Olivia remained composed, maintaining her cold expression. She didn't even bother looking at the beam heading her way; instead, her gaze remained fixed on me. However, just before the beam could strike Olivia, it abruptly halted in mid-air. It was as if time had stopped. Those who wished to be heroes froze in their tracks, their expressions filled with confusion. They wondered, 'How can a beam come to a sudden stop?' Moments later, the beam dispersed, as if it had never existed. Everything returned to normal, except for the intensified gazes directed at us. We had become the center of attention.

The girl's creepy smile vanished, replaced by a distorted expression as she surveyed the room. People began looking at her with derision, while more and more eyes turned towards Olivia in awe, believing that it was her ability that had stopped the beam. This only served to fuel the girl's fury further. She launched more beams, with even greater energy, yet the result remained the same—the beams stopped before reaching Olivia. Unfazed, Olivia continued to disregard her surroundings, standing calmly beside me, waiting for my orders.

'It's a good thing I already instructed Luna not to kill anyone, or that girl would be dead by now,' I thought, observing the girl's increasingly furious expression. When its seemed like everything was about to come to an end. Suddenly the girl ordered her manservant to kill Olivia.

The manservant began moving towards us. Olivia and I calmly watched as he approached. This time, onlookers started to make their way towards us, assuming that Olivia possessed some form of defensive ability. However, before anyone could reach us, the manservant accelerated his speed and was just a few feet away. Being a level 8 ability user from one of the top 3 families, everyone believed that Olivia would undoubtedly meet her demise this time. Some clenched their fists, while others closed their eyes, unable to bear witnessing the outcome. But just as the manservant was about to touch Olivia, he transformed into energy particles and vanished, as if he had never existed.

This scene left everyone present in shock. Level 8 ability users were regarded as powerhouses in this world, and for someone of that level to disappear so effortlessly was unheard of. Now, all eyes were on Olivia, viewing her in a new light. Previously, they had considered her a beautiful maiden with weak ability, but now they knew that she possessed tremendous power. She could be seen as a top-tier powerhouse with a promising future. However, everyone was left perplexed as to why she served as a personal maid to a Third Lord who still had a long way to ascend to Thorn.

'She really did it,' I thought, surveying the crowd that was in awe of Luna's power. The girl grew anxious upon witnessing her manservant's sudden disappearance as if he were nothing. 'Killing a manservant might not be an issue, but if she were to kill that girl…' I thought, uncertain about what Luna might do to the girl. Just as I was about to shout to stop Luna, I heard a voice from my right side.

"Stop it," said a girl with blonde hair and golden eyes. She looked captivating, comparable to Olivia in terms of figure. However, her expression seemed somewhat distorted. She was the princess, the lover, and the fiancee of the MC.
