Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Little English Raven

In a deserted ruin-like street, a tall redheaded boy ran into a mall, grabbed an iron beam and blocked the door handles.

" Phew, that was a close one. That pixie was about to make me its breakfast."

The boy whispered to himself as he began to look around the mall for supplies and shoved them into his bag.

"Most of this stuff has expired....."

He continued to wander around and search.  He reached the indoor parking lot and it looked abandoned,  he noticed several demolished cars and one seemed to have someone in it, he slowly walked towards it.

"Woah!"

He said in shock, it turns out it wasn't just one person but three, two grown men and a short teenage boy, he suddenly heard a groan. The boy was alive! The carrot top quickly pried the back seat door open and dragged the boy out. The boy had jet-black hair and pale porcelain skin, his clothes were torn and bloody, with several cuts and bruises all over his body.

"Welp looks like I'm gonna be taking care of a fun-sized kid for a few."

He carried the boy into the mall's pharmacy and began to treat him.

"Luckily I don't think they're infected."

He said as he bandaged another cut. He laid the raven-haired boy on the floor and slowly rested himself on the pharmacy's counter.

"Just gonna take a quick..."

He was unable to finish his sentence without pausing to yawn, which was expected considering the time he'd spent on foot, and quickly he fell asleep.

an hour later.....

"Um....excuse me but who are you? And where are we right now?" The short boy asked the sleeping one, the redhead jerked awake.

"Oh, you're awake...There's a lotta stuff to explain but first I'm Remi, nice to meet you!"

"Pleased to make your acquaintance Remi, my name's Zane. Could you explain what is going on now?"

Remi stared at the strangely formal boy for a few seconds.

"What?" Zane asked.

"It's just that for such a small kid you talk like my grampa, except much more British. Wait, what's a British kid doing in Detroit during the apocalypse?" Remi asked with confusion written all over his face.

"I'm very sure I asked my question first, also please expand on the apocalypse," Zane responded calmly, his face remaining unchanged despite what Remi had just said.

" You're a feisty one aren't ya?"

The room went silent.

"Okay, okay I'll explain...even though I wonder how someone could know nothing about a literal apocalypse." Remi was greeted with silence once more.

" ....So two months ago these weird portals opened all over the world, and a voice came outta them and said "Hello." then all of a sudden kids started getting superpowers! Cool right? We call them edicts for some reason, people with them have marks somewhere noticeable on their bodies that basically prove they have one. Kids without 'em are called pathfinders, no adults got them though. A month after, the portals came again and the voice said "Survive." And then all kinds of monsters and supernatural creatures came out, a lot looked like humans but practically all of them look like adults though so they're pretty easy to make out, they're pretty bloodthirsty as well so as expected it basically became a worse walking dead."

Remi caught his breath after talking so much.

"So yeah that's basically what happened, I came into this mall to hide from a pixie, went into the parking lot and saw you almost dead in a car and decided to help."

The room went silent.

"You probably can't comprehend it, I should give you some ti-"

"I see..." Zane responded calmly.

"Well then I am in your debt, please allow me to accompany you through this apocalypse."
