Chapter 4 - A Protagonist's Backstory and A Book [1]

"I can't bring myself to look at his face any longer! no matter how much i tried to convince myself that it's not the child's fault .. I can't help but to see the resemblance!"

A little boy could be seen taking a peek of a conversation between two women.

"Mother I can't do this!! I never wanted the kid to be in my life!" complained Kou's mom to his grand mother.

Having witnessed the conversation at an early age, Kou who was still 8 years old, couldn't understand a thing that the mother had said to the elder woman.

"Endure it." The elder one said.

Kou could see just how miserable his mother looked that day, her body shivered like she had just been dumped on the Atlantic ocean, a pair of wet eyes as red as blood, her figure crouching on the ground letting out a cry for help in front of the elder woman. Kou can remember it all clearly, however he also remembers how cold his grand mother was to the younger woman.

"Why should I take care of her kid? he's the one who killed her!" The grand mother said to the relatives at his mother's funeral.

These words which was engraved to his memory is still as fresh as the first time he heard it till today.

Kou's mother from his memory, was the warmest person he had ever come close to in his life. Her smile, her laugh, those means a lot to Kou as a kid.

However Kou did not like how his so called "Relatives" treated him and his mother. Kou didn't know why the family members hated them so much. The nasty glares the "Relatives" would give him and his mother every time the "Family" gathered, the ugly remarks and sarcasm they would tell at the dining table every time he and his mother were present, he hated all that, he hated them so much, he couldn't understand why they were acting so ugly to his mother.

"Makes sense for a kid of a wh*re to not know his place." Kou, which had just turned 15 that day remembers how the family reacted to him telling them that it was his birthday.

It all makes sense now... the harsh treatment they gave him and his mother, the nasty remarks they've been throwing every time they see him, Kou could understand it all now, but Kou knew it wasn't his or his mother's fault, it's all his father- no he never even knew who his father was. All he knew was his mother was innocent. Having stumbled across a book long before he moved in with his grand parents, Kou recognized what book it was , it was the book that his mother would write on every time Kou was asleep, he often takes a peek on what his mother was doing and act as if he was asleep sometimes.

Kou never knew what the contents of the book was , all he knew was how important that book was to his mother , the way she would sometimes laugh or even cry while writing on the book. He never once read the book ever since he come across it. However, he decided to read the book that night.

Kou shivered, hatred filled his eyes. The coldness he had been experiencing turns into a burning sensation, his breathing becoming unstable, the book which was now just in his hand now is dropped to the floor, water flowing from a pair of eyes that looks like it had just lost all the reason to exist in the world.

Ah... it was all that shameless old hag's doing.
