"So, I finally got a place where we can work."
"Moya? That's Incredible!"
" Yes, Anneson. We can finally live a life where we won't have to starve. Getting a high and stable income is exceedingly rare in our country. With this opportunity, we can do everything we dreamed of. From buying our very own car to getting an actual house."
"Slow Down, Moya. Do you even know what job we are attending?"
"Yes. It's a cleaning job. Although it may sound like a job that does not supply a high income, it does. We are rumored to earn up to $7000 a month!"
"That is amazing news, Moya. When are we supposed to start?"
"Soon. We haven't been told a date, nor are we allowed to tell anyone, but hopefully, we will be given an update pretty soon."
A few days later, a few guards come to their home and tell them that their job application has been approved and that they are needed at the Aranthia to do training. It was evening, and Anneson and Moya quickly got ready to go with the guards and head off to the castle. The first person they meet is Wendy. She comes outside to greet both Anneson and Moya for the training.
"Hi, both of you!" Wendy shouts with a wide grin on her face.
Moya extends his hand for a handshake saying, "Hi. I believe you should be Wendy, am I right?"
Wendy then replies and says, "You are indeed correct. I'm here to show you around and help make sure you don't get lost because, as you can see, this place is massive!" Wendy makes a gesture with her arms signaling how big the place is. They both laugh a bit, and they head in.
Wendy leads the way through what feels like a hallway. "You guys have no idea how much help you are making with this experiment. We have been trying to find hosts, but no one will do it."
Anneson tries to keep up with her trying to grapple her attention, saying, "Hey, what experiment are you talking about?"
Wendy turns around, walking backward a bit, to explain, "You know, the experiment included in the job description. This is something that the king wants to achieve. Immortality. I don't want to go deep into his reasoning, but I support him because this will be an excellent breakthrough. People will become immortal, and no one will have to deal with losing a family member. No one will suffer from pain or death; potentially, no one will require food or water to survive. This will help a country that is basically on its knees right now. I know this may sound dangerous, but I will be there. After all, I am the one who created the medicine."
Moya holds Anneson's hand and whispers, "Don't worry, this is safe. We will be fine, I promise."
All three ended up in what seemed to be a big living room with some couches. Two people were standing in front of them. They were wearing costly clothing, and they appeared very tall from the looks of it.
Wendy soon explains that once the two individuals and Moya and Anneson see each other, "so this is Sikha and his wife: the king and the queen. I'll leave you two to get to know each other while I prepare a few things. Wendy goes out of sight, and Sikha welcomes Moya and Anneson to sit on a red couch.
Sikha starts a conversation, trying to break the awkwardness, "I am honored to collaborate with you two."
Moya replies, saying, "Us too, My Lord. I did not know that we would be working for you!
"Well, we had to make sure that this was a secret. We wanted this to seem as normal as possible." the queen replies, not looking so welcoming.
Anneson replies curiously, "Why?"
Sikha turns his attention to Anneson, "We only wanted to collaborate with individuals with good intentions. So many people want to sabotage us, Anneson. We want to make sure the least risk is in place here. Don't worry, in any case. You are not alone. There will be a couple more individuals who will be joining you in the experiment. For now, get some rest. I have gotten a guest room nearby. Make sure you all get ready, okay?"
"Sure." Both Moya and Anneson nod. The workers show Anneson and Moya to their rooms. The workers leave them so that they can have some privacy. Silence stares for a bit until Anneson decides to speak.
"Are you sure we are doing the right thing here, Moya?"
"Yes, I am completely sure. Remember our wish to have a child Anneson? This is our way of having a family. That is all I want. Don't you want the same Anneson?"
"Yes, I do, but."
"This is the only way, Anneson. Every other job has either gone bankrupt or has had a non-survivable income. This is the only solution Anneson."
"I am only doing this because I trust you, Moya. So please don't make this my biggest mistake."
"It won't."
A few hours pass, and the guards bring some food for them to eat. After that, the king says that the experiment starts tomorrow and that they must sleep well before they start. Moya and Anneson then go to sleep.
The Next morning, they wake up, have breakfast, and meet with Wendy in the main hall as instructed. Wendy appears after 15 minutes. Moya and Anneson see that there are a lot more people now who will try the experiment, at least 36. Wendy begins to address the bunch.
"Okay, so today is the day when dreams become a reality. The state of the nation at the moment is not well. Resources are running out, and because we do not have many farmers, we do not have the resources for everyone. This has caused the prices to spike, meaning that only a small bunch can afford to survive. This has caused a lot of violence and mass murder over the past few years, leading to many people losing their families and friends. This is where my medicine comes in. Theoretically, this medicine will allow humans to keep living and reproducing without relying on food, water, or other medicine. Our bodies would become immune to most diseases, and we would practically be immortal. Although this might cause an overpopulation problem, our priority right now is to survive, have peace, and ensure no one has to die for someone else to live. I am guessing you can now see how much help you all are. You, your family, and your offspring will be massively compensated for your commitment to this; as you can see, you all are our bridge to prosperity." Wendy then goes and opens a big box in front of her; she pulls out two pieces of glassware. One test tube has a blue liquid, and the other is pink. She begins to explain.
"So, these two works very interestingly. It's called OmniVite. So, everyone will drink one of these. The blue liquid lets you emit a certain gas through your skin. The pink liquid allows your body to absorb the gas being emitted by another individual unwillingly. This gas will make us immortal by transforming itself into anything that the body would need at that moment, including food, water, and medicine that even humans have not even invested in yet; plus, this will cure aging. Also, the way this chemical works, where you need someone to stay alive, will symbolize our milestone for peace and love. I hope this works. But I have a lot of research and theories to back me up, so I'm 99.5% sure this will work. Any questions?"
Everyone is pleased. They give a round of applause for Wendy's outstanding breakthrough. This brings a wide grin to Wendy. Wendy then excitedly takes out the rest of the test tubes and gives one to everyone. After that, everyone begins to drink the syrup. After some time, they discuss how this will make their country prosperous.
"You see? Everything is fine!" Moya told Anneson.
"I'm sorry I doubted you, Moya," Anneson smiled. They both hold hands and smile briefly, but their moment is interrupted after someone starts screaming. After that, a few more people start screaming in pain. Almost 80% of the people there begin experiencing much pain. Moya and Anneson don't feel anything, however. Wendy's face goes from being very happy to completely speechless. She could not do anything as she did not believe what was happening before her eyes. After a few minutes of screaming, there is silence. The people who were calling were now not moving. They had died because the body could not handle the chemical running through the bloodstream and the heart. The crying starts to occur as lives are lost once more. The crowd begins to attack Wendy because they have a dangerous chemical inside them that could kill them at any moment. Wendy does nothing, still frozen and struggling to process what happened.
The crowd hits her multiple times. She is beaten up pretty badly. Moya and Wendy try to help her out of the situation by pushing the people out of the way and taking her to a locked room. Wendy is not in a good state now. Physically and Mentally. She seems to have been stabbed. She is bleeding a lot, with many bruises and scars all over her body. They put her on the red couch in the middle of the room.
"Thank You," Wendy says her last words as she falls unconscious. Her vision becomes blurry and blank; she hears Moya and Anneson's voices calling out with an angry crowd shouting outside the room.
