Chapter 17 - 017

I rushed forwards, ducking under a wild strike with a pipe, but not fast enough to avoid getting a bullet in my hand. The sudden pain shocked me as I stumbled forwards, my gaze wide with shock as someone tackled me to the ground, his body covered in a blaze of flames that swallowed me up as if I had been doused with gas.

"aargh!"

My screams were wretched, the result from a simple [Fire Body Charge] card, was shocking to everyone else, until I remembered I was cursed. Fire and light and water were my greatest banes. These two elements will forever work against me, and now perhaps I would die from one.

My assailant got up from me, shocked as he deactivated his card, but I was not going to let him get away as I leaped forwards and sank my jaw around his ankles. I hit a vein and spurt of blood rushed down my throat. He screamed but I grabbed onto his legs for as long as I could, draining and drinking of his essence.

To the rest of his friends it seemed to them that perhaps I was some bat shit crazy street kid that doesn't know when to just keel over and die. But dying was not in my agenda today, I held on to him tighter as my body fell under another round of assault. They kicked and shot at me, trying their best to get me off their friends leg.

They should have shot at my head, but I had one arm over it and the other wrapped around the guys leg and my teeth buried deep. There was no hitting me in the head without hitting him too. That was pretty much a mistake on their path as they should have really just gone for the head.

Perhaps it would be best if I checked out my cards as soon as possible and know what they actually did. The only one I have an explanation for was [Infusion] I need to get my priorities straight….if I survive this.

But I can feel something, the blood, there was an attraction to it, or perhaps it would be better to describe it as an awareness. I willed it, called to it, summoned it, and it answered. Rushing forwards in a gush that sprayed out all over my face and the bodies of the people attacking me.

The shock forced me back, finally being what would dislodge me from the artery I had been sucking from. There were curses being hurled around me, the gush of blood had shocked everyone around me. This was just the opportunity I need to run away…..but I couldn't, they have all seen me, they have seen what I am, if I run away then I am as good as dead. They all have to die…. all of them.

I turned around and smashed my head against someone's nose, I heard a crack, I took a closer look but all I saw was a caved in face as his body dropped to the ground like a sack of potatoes. I dragged the bat that was in his hand and flung it, right in the same moment I was getting shot in the chest.

The bat connected though as I took a step back, bringing it back with me bloody while someone else fell to the ground his head a ruined mush. It was like art, I should make more. I rushed forwards and swung the bat in front of me, perhaps it was by providence or just luck, or perhaps there was more to my instincts as a Vampyre than I originally thought.

The bat deflected two bullets out of the air, but there were still reverberations from it that made my hands shake. I swung it upwards using [Infusion] as the bat developed a bloody red glow and carved a furrow from someone's jaw upwards all the way to the top of his head.

I felt light headed for a bit, I had absolutely no control over the amount of resource I was infusing, however I could keep this card active for as long as I wanted to, due to the fact that my regeneration was crazy. The card functioned for not just my body but my resources making it worth it's weight in Gold. I just couldn't understand why all the cards in the Vampyre Deck are relegated to Common when they are much stronger than that.

Even the infusion card had been demoted from rare to common, almost as if it was a necessity that all cards grow along in power with the deck as a whole. But back to the matter at hand, I was still having a dance of death with a rival gang.

There were no more shots being fired, which was understandable. Guns weren't that much of a controlled resource, but what was really hard to get were ammunition. They were all out of it, idly I wondered why these guys just had to chase me, I should look like any other kid, there was nothing on me to show that I was a silver, I looked Normal...shit.

I looked down at the bloodied jacket I had on, and noticed that it was somewhat similar to what they were all wearing, mine though was silver while theirs was brown.

"You guys recognized the jacket didn't you? I should have been more careful." I muttered to myself when it became obvious I was responsible for my own misfortune.

And just like that I felt into a haze as I attacked. There was no going back from this and I have to be done with this as quickly as possible before reinforcements get here. How in the hell Scorpion and the others had not noticed the jacket baffled me. Perhaps this was something new and the rest of the gang was not aware.

But regardless I had killed someone important to the Dodsons, and like a fool took his jacket for a trophy and marched into their territory. It's as if Fate was actively working against me, like it wanted me to die. But I don't care, we all have to die one day. But right now….these guys would die first so that I can die later..... much later.
