The short journey back was filled with silence, both husband and wife quietly mulled over the unnecessarily treacherous journey that had led them down this path.
Chi Lian thought about the one soldier who T4 had just told her was dead. Back at the shores, it did not appear as if the soldiers had been grieving one of their own nor had it been shared with the rest of them. If T4 did not tell her, she never would have known either. The death of the soldier reminded her of just how fragile life was.
She turned her heavy eyes towards her husband for a few seconds before turning away to avoid his sharp detection, which would be followed up by questioning and deduction.
