I could smell the alcohol from his breath. The fool was drunk

A deeper voice spoke and from the way the guy's eyes widened,it was probably someone of a higher authority.
He immediately took a turn a disappeared from my sight.

"Don't mention it,just stay out of trouble"

"That's it, I expected a sarcastic retort"

I suddenly felt suffocated. As of the walls were beginning to cave in on me and all eyes were on me.
I needed to leave. I'm going to escape. Tonight
"I'm gonna step out for some air"
I don't know how but I managed to a quieter place . It wasn't far away enough from those people but it was something.
I tried to think. To encourage myself but it seemed like my emotions were in mess. I was torn between wanting to find out what my real purpose of being here was and getting the hell away from this place
"If you're thinking about running away, I'd advice you not to"

"I'm supposed to keep an eye on you, remember?"
"I want to be alone"
"I know that it's hard especially for you, knowing your current situation but ,I'm sure you'll get the hang of things soon"

"So frustrating "he spat out looking all worked up.
His jaw was clenched and he seemed to have tightened his fists.
"You've only known of my existence for like a day so why are you getting all worked up"
"This is what I'm talking about,you are frustrating and I don't get why I've been paired up with you. You have zero skills,zero talent, your origin is unknown,you haven't been in the academy for even a month,you didn't sit for the exam and yet you somehow ended up here and even got paired up with me"
"Get to the fucking point Alaric "
"You don't belong here! You were never meant to be here and our pairing was a mistake "
"Wait,is this you rejecting me" I scoffed trying hard not to laugh out loud because I found his reasoning as a complete joke.
If only he knew how much damage I could cause ,he would not think twice before watching his tone
"It's me telling you that you're not good enough for me and I don't think you'll ever amount to anything in this place"
He all but yelled and after that sad excuse of a rant he seemed to look pretty smug about what he just said.
"Are you done yet?"
That seemed to throw him off his pedestal.
Did he really think that what he said would make an impact on me ?
I mean come on. I had heard much worse before and from the looks of it, this guy had probably never met someone who didn't take his bullshit.
"Talking sense to you is impossible"
"Then just leave,your presence here is nauseating "
He let out a sharp exhale as he stared at me coldly
"Don't try anything stupid otherwise I will personally make sure that you regret it"
And with that he walked away.
I waited for about ten minutes before executing my plan.
Getting the hell out of here.
I slipped out of the party and made my way to what looked like gates
It was a bit dark and I honestly had no idea on where I was headed to but I decided to trust my instincts hoping that I was right.
I was however surprised that there were no guards around .
Despite that being a good sign ,I felt as if this was way too easy.
After running for what felt like ages I realised that there were no buildings around and the path that is I was headed to was even darker but what drove me forward was the sound of what seemed to be like waves
You know that sound that one hears when waves crash onto rocks? That's the exact same sound I heard.
Ignoring the warning signs and red flags that seemed to be all around me,I pushed forward until I approached a cliff.
Why did I term it as a cliff? Well because at the end of it,all I could see was a starless sky.
The wind began to blow harshly as I approached that cliff and fold chills began to run down my spine if that was even possible.
The air seemed to change and I felt the presence of a very oppressive force around me.
"Well well well,look what we have here"
Shit. I've been caught.
Now is definitely not a good time to be caught.
Maybe I should jump. That sounded like the most reasonable solution but the problem came in when I questioned what creatures would be in the water.
What if I found a bunch of great white sharks or something even worse.
"If you're planning to jump I'd advice you not to"
"You have no right to tell me what to do"
I could hear him approaching me and once he was close enough, I tried not to stare.
Strong.
I could tell from his physic.
He was wearing a mask and a hooded cloak so I couldn't tell how he really looked
He grasped my chin with one hand while his other arm pulled me closer to him as if he was trying to prevent me from moving.
He began to tilt my chin to the side and began to analyze me.
I felt completely violated because nobody had ever held me that way.
He was either being extremely shameless or he was probably simply curious
"How is it that you're still alive and yet you have the shadow of death covering you completely "
He finally broke the awkward silence
I decided to play dumb because for him to see that ,that proved that he wasn't just an ordinary elite.
"What shadow of death? You're crazy"
"I know what I'm saying. You are not supposed to be alive I assume "
"Could you let me go now ,I'm getting uncomfortable "
"You are quite the peculiar thing"
"I said let me go"
I stomped hard on his feet but that didn't phase him at all. Instead he let out a snort before loosening his hold on me
"Don't jump, the liquid below that you might think is water isn't "
"You're lying "
"Well,if you want to die by jumping into acid,them be my guest "
Wait hold up
"Acid?"
"What did you think it was ,an ocean? Come on"
"Then.."
"And even before falling to your untimely death, the force field would have fried you up"
"Force field?"
"So slow "
He picked up a random stick and threw it off the cliff and to my surprise,it hit some sort of wall and lit up in flames.
That could have been me.
Fuck
"Why..why did you stop me ,what are your intentions"
"Don't get it twisted little mouse, I was just curious about the shadow, it has nothing to do with you"
"Then you j..."
"SOLACE!!!!"
Fuck. Just what I needed.
"Alaric"
He looked livid and terrifying.
I mean, all I did was try to run away and give him the freedom he wanted so why was he acting as if I meant something to him.
"You! What are you doing here"
"Getting some fresh air" I retorted
"You tried to run away!"
"Of course not. I would never think of doing such a thing Alaric trust me"
Note the sarcasm
"And you,Azriel, what are you doing here with her"
"Why should it concern you Alaric"
"Because she is my bonded. She is mine and I can do whatever it is that I feel like to her"
"Sick bastard" I whispered but he seemed to have heard it
"You think I'm a sick bastard! I'll show you what a sick bastard is"
He grabbed my arm and dragged me towards the edge of the cliff and then he did the unexpected.
He directed my arm to what I knew was the force field and then... He freaking let it burn.
The pain was excruciating and nerve wrecking.
I tried pulling away but I couldn't.
"That's enough Alaric,you're hurting her"
"That's what I want"
"You are sick" I spat out
The world began to spin and my knees began to weaken.
"This is a warning, the next time you try to run away, it will be even worse. I will make you regret the day you came to this place and I will make sure that you will suffer a fate worse than death.
From today onwards you are at my mercy and nobody will save you from this fate"
And with that,the darkness and the pain finally consumed me
