The novel opens as Violetta is being told to go and tell Beckham and his friends to go for lunch. She explains that her and Beckham are dating and that they are mates. There is one problem with their relationship, though.
Beckham wants to keep her a secret. He refuses to publicly say that she is his girlfriend because he knows his parents would never approve. Violetta is an Omega and a maid and he is betrothed to the daughter of an Alpha, Sheryl.
When she gets to the pool, she finds Beckham and Sheryl heavily making out. This hurts her because Beckham had specifically told her that he was forced to be around Sheryl and she was nothing to him.
Their little interaction says otherwise. After telling them that they have been called for lunch, she goes somewhere to cry and a few moments later overhears a conversation.
